Please IMMEDIATELY extend Oakland's eviction moratorium until the local state of emergency is lifted. Oakland’s unhoused population is already embarrassingly large and we cannot afford for it to become larger due to the simultaneous tragedy of Federal mishandling of the pandemic response.
Further evictions will cause communities of color to bear the brunt of the crisis. Evictions also expose these communities to more of the police violence that has already cause incalculable harm to them. Housing keeps us safe, not the police. Extend the eviction moratorium, pass the Tenant Protection Upgrades, and Defund OPD.

My name is Claudia Leung and I live in District 2. I urge City Council to IMMEDIATELY extend Oakland's eviction moratorium until the local state of emergency is lifted. Experts warn of a tsunami of evictions due to COVID-19. Like the pandemic and police violence, communities of color will bear the brunt of the crisis. Housing keeps us safe, not the police. We demand that you defund OPD, extend the eviction moratorium, and pass the tenant protection upgrades.

Please extend the moratorium and hold the real estate moguls accountable who have caused the housing crisis in Oakland.

Do the right thing for once and protect Oakland tenants. You have the choice to do the right thing and protect the people of Oakland by voting yes for extending the moratorium. The alternative will be one of the largest mass uprisings in Oakland history. So you have the choice to do it the easy way or the hard way.

Do your jobs. Extend the moratorium.

I live in District 1 and am in support of extending the eviction moratorium. So many folx are experiencing loss of income right now, and will be even more hard hit when the federal unemployment weekly benefits stop at the end of July. It is critical that folx do not lose their housing during this crisis as well. Keeping folx housed is SO important and ultimately a better option in terms of preventing the need for future community support costs. Please continue the eviction moratorium while the state (and country) is still in an emergency due to the pandemic.

I live in District 4 and I support the Emergency Eviction Moratorium Extension. Many people have lost their jobs due to COVID-19 and without this extension they will be at risk of losing their housing. Oakland has struggled with a housing crisis for years and I believe it's time to put people first. Our most vulnerable residents will be even more at risk of losing housing without this extension.

I am a constituent of District 4 and I am in support of extending Oakland's emergency protection measures until the state of emergency is lifted. I am currently a tenant, and have not been able to make my rent payments since April due to being laid off at the end of March. There will be a wave of evictions if this is not set in place, and communities of color will bear the brunt. Stop displacement!

I am an Oakland resident (of District 1) and landlord. I fully support this extension of the emergency eviction moratorium to protect Oakland residents during the COVID19 crisis, and I generally support the strengthening of tenant protections to protect our city's most vulnerable residents in the midst of our extended housing crisis.

I am a resident of District 2 (Councilmember Bas' district) and I urge the Council to extend Oakland's eviction moratorium. To create further housing instability in Oakland, especially in the middle of a public health emergency, is inhumane and irresponsible.

Oakland residents need protection to keep their housing during this unprecedented time of health pandemic. Keeping people in their homes must be a priority.

I support this extension wholeheartedly as a critical public health measure to protect all residents in Oakland. Keeping people housed is the highest priority we must have during this time of pandemic and emergency. Ending the eviction moratorium would lead to worsening overcrowding as families double and triple up, couch surf, and then increasingly end up homeless or displaced elsewhere. Overcrowded and unsafe housing is a vector for chronic disease and the spread of coronavirus. We must do what we can to stem this danger.

This is a crucial measure to protect Oakland renters and needs to be extended immediately.

I am in District 1 and I support this measure. We need to keep people in housing if they are already there. We need to protect our residence especially the most vulnerable.

Experts warn of a tsunami of evictions due to COVID-19. Like the pandemic and police violence, communities of color will bear the brunt of the crisis. Housing keeps us safe, not the police. Will you defund OPF by at least 50%, extend the eviction moratorium, and pass the tenant protection upgrades?

I live in District 1 and I strongly support extending the eviction moratorium and protecting tenants from harassment by passing the #TenantProtectionUpgrades. No one should be pushed out during or because of a pandemic.

I live in Council District 5 and our neighbors who have lost their jobs are not going back to work. Some are still waiting for their full unemployment payments and are having to choose between paying rent and paying for food. It is urgent that we extend this moratorium and protect some of the most vulnerable members of our community, some of whom have already been threatened with evictions despite the moratorium.

My name is Kelcie and I live in district one. I urge you to immediately extend Oakland's eviction moratorium until the local state of emergency is lifted. Experts warn of a tsunami of evictions due to COVID-19. Like the pandemic and police violence, communities of color will bear the brunt of the crisis. Housing keeps us safe and this measure will ensure more access to this basic human right.
