From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
As a Jewish resident of Oakland, I urge the city council to adopt this resolution to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. We cannot sit idly by as Israel kills tens of thousands of people for no purpose than collective punishment.
Please pass this resolution and call for an immediate ceasefire. Children are losing their lives, their families, their childhood and doing the right thing is never complicated. We must stand on the side of humanity, always.
As an Oakland resident and OUSD teacher I demand our elected officials to stand on the right side of history and against genocide. Further, as a tax-payer, I demand our taxes fund schools and our communities for the betterment of society, not a foreign country’s war crimes.
Please pass this resolution to call for an immediate ceasefire, end the occupation, and stop the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians. Oakland must stand on the right side of history
As a district 1 resident, queer Jew of color, a person with disabilities and the grandchild of a Holocaust survivor, I see the Nakba in Gaza as not just a genocide and land grab for corporate enrichment from Gaza’s oil resources, but a mass disabling event which will impact generations of Palestinians. It is imperative that we all do what we can within our respective spheres of influence to stand up against human rights violations and war crimes, and today we ask our Oakland electeds to do what is within your power and listen to your constituents’ call for a permanent ceasefire now. Please join Barbara Lee’s call, stand with cities in the Bay Area standing up for what’s right like Alameda, stand with cities nationwide like Detroit, and stand with Jews nationwide saying not in our name.
As a Jew, a ceasefire is not antisemitic and does nothing to make me feel unsafe. Conflating Zionism with Judaism, however, is a common propaganda tactic that is antisemitic, in its implication that Jews are a monolith and that the agenda and actions of the Israeli government are aligned with the will of the people and/or Judaism. In fact, Jews worldwide and here in your districts are taking action to demand a ceasefire, and we urge you to do the same. It is an important Jewish practice to question everything, including the lengths the US war machine will go to enrich itself. Stand against genocide and stand with your constituents in demanding a ceasefire now and an end to the occupation.
I support the resolution for a ceasefire. By adding our city to the growing list of those speaking out, we can pressure the federal government to stop propping up genocide and ethnic cleansing. All we are asking for is a ceasefire: no more killing of innocent men, women, and children. This isn’t about taking sides but about having humanity.
My name is Marianna and I am an Oakland resident, voter, and Oakland Unified School District educator. Thank you for putting forth this resolution, and I urge you to unanimously vote in favor. We must join the international calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and stand in solidarity for a free Palestine. As an Oakland community, we cannot be complicit in Israel’s genocide and occupation of the Palestinian people. We will not stand silently by and continue to watch Israel murder and displace thousands of innocent people and children. This is such a small action— silence out of fear of political repercussion is harmful. I also urge you to support union and community actions in our city that support a ceasefire, free Palestine, and those at the port that prevent weapons from being transported to Israel. We demand a cease fire now! Free Palestine!
I stand with the multiracial coalition calling upon Oakland City Council to pass a resolution joining our congressional leadership in calling for an immediate #CEASEFIRENOW.
Please pass this resolution to call for an immediate ceasefire, end the occupation, and stop the ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians. Oakland must stand on the right side of history
I’m an Oakland resident and a social worker serving families in Oakland. As a Jew, I strongly support a ceasefire, and an end to the genocide Israel is committing against Palestinians. Never again means never again for anyone. End the occupation.

I supper this resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and Palestine. Also calling for a demand of no U.S. money to Israel. Allow for humanitarian aid into Gaza and Palestine. End the 75 year siege on Palestinians. We need to publicly make this statement and pass this resolution as humans and community members.
I support Oakland‘s resolution for a cease-fire end, and believe it should go further to call for an end to the oppression of Palestinian people by the Israeli government. Additionally, being a port city, Oakland has the opportunity to put pressure on the port and businesses using it. Please pressure them to not aid Israel in the war by allowing weapons to pass through and boycotting Israeli companies identified by the BDS movement, an act that was instrumental during South African apartheid. Support the unions in any efforts they make to do so. Thank you for considering this resolution, it makes me proud to live and vote in Oakland.
