I affirm the position to adopt a plan for the immediate ceasefire in Gaza. I support the initiative to protect life and denounce the abhorrent violence against the Palestinian community in Gaza and the West Bank. I denounce the violet war crimes and atrocities committed by the state of Israel.

As a resident of Oakland and District 5, I support this resolution and Rep. Barbara Lee and call on all Oakland electeds to follow her leadership in representing Oakland’s values in the sponsorship of HR 786. Passing a ceasefire resolution makes the world safer for everyone. $6,121,149 is the total estimated funds the U.S. government sends to the Israeli military from taxpayers in Oakland, California, through federal tax dollars. Instead of funding apartheid and a genocide of the Palestinian people, these funds could be used to support public housing, free health care, education and public health initiatives instead. I call on Oakland City Council to join the worldwide call for ceasefire and to also lead major American cities by being the first large city to make this declaration.

I am a resident of Oakland and I’m here to request out representatives support an immediate ceasefire and an end to the occupation in Palestine. The city of Oakland must stand in the right side of history and contribute to the nationwide push for an end to this genocide. People go hungry in our streets while this country uses our tax dollars to finance the murder of children and innocent civilians.

I am a constituent of District 4 and I demand that you vote YES for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. As a Vietnamese-American child of immigrants, I am fervently opposed to the US's ongoing support of this genocide of the Palestinian people, and its continued global colonial and imperialist agenda that has wreaked havoc and devastation for decades. I am proud of Oakland's history of progress and revolution to stand on the right side of history.

My name is Marcelo Vaz. I am an Oakland native and current resident of District 1. I am writing today to beg that you, as representatives of our city, represent the voice of the people by taking stand against genocide and a stand for humanity, both demanding an immediate ceasefire in Palestine as well as putting a stop to our tax dollars going to Israel and helping to fund this genocide. I am a Jewish American, and beyond all, a human, and we cannot stand by and watch Israel wipe other humans off of this Earth. I urge all Oakland city council members to support H Res 786 and to support an end to diplomatic and economic ties to Israel by the United States government. Adopt a resolution affirming Oakland's Love Life commitment and support the congressional and worldwide calls for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

I am a constituent of oakland. As a healthcare woke I implore you to support this resolution for a lasting ceasefire. To not support this is to condone the continued bombing of hospitals mostly occupied by children. It is abhorrent to sit silently while we fund this genocide with our tax dollars as citizens. The support of this resolution is the support of a safer world for the children of all peoples.

I'm an Oakland resident and Jew, and I call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the freeing of Palestinian hostages, and an end to continuing kidnapping of Palestinian children and families. Oakland has a long history of speaking up and standing up for oppressed communities. A liberated Palestine is what we need now and always.

I am an Oakland constituent. We must stand with clarity against ethic cleansing and genocide. A permanent ceasefire is what is needed first.

I am a resident of Oakland in district 6. The very least we can do is call for a permanent ceasefire. The US news media has been incorrectly calling Israel’s siege on and genocide of Palestinians as a “war” with absolutely no regard for the power imbalance and the reasons for violence. This is another chance for Oakland to stand on the right side of history as we’ve done before. I hope that this city can muster up the courage and listen to the majority of the people of this country and stand up against genocide.

    To our representatives:

We call on Oakland to support global calls for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to US support to Israel! No more genocide!

As someone who worked for 3 years in the Bay Area helping mostly Central American asylum seekers access basic human rights in this country, I have witnessed first-hand the stories of people who have survived US-funded genocides, especially those immigrating from Guatemala and El Salvador. Genocide means rape and torture and death of innocents. Genocide means generational trauma. Genocide is a wound so deep that its repercussions are ALWAYS felt on a global level. And it absolutely sickens me that the taxes I paid from the very job I worked to try to help people heal from genocide are now directly funding bombs dropped on Palestinian neighborhoods, schools, and hospitals.

Oakland is a community that includes so many immigrants and people who are continual and generational survivors of genocide. This city is built atop the sacred shell mounds and unceded land of the Ohlone people. The name Oakland comes from the oak trees that once thrived here and were cut down by colonizers. Our history means that we have a responsibility to speak loudly, firmly, and unendingly against genocide anywhere, and especially genocide paid for by taxes from our own people’s sweat and labor.

This is wrong. The world is watching. Let us fight on the right side of history.

Let us speak loudly and clearly: Free Palestine!

    Sincerely,
    Anna Flurry
