From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
We need a ceasefire now and a stop to the genocide of Palestinians by the state of Israel. It is unconscionable to allow this to continue to happen and to be funded by our taxes. Oakland should continue to stand with those oppressed
As an Oakland resident and child of Vietnam War with 3 generations of family members who have trauma from war (3 wars in total), I support a permanent ceasefire.
I am a jewish american and i wholeheartedly support an immediate ceasefire and end of the occupation in Palestine. Though i currently live in mendocino, I am in Oakland often to visit with friends and family. what i love most about oakland is the amazing activism of the people. this is what keeps me coming back. The ceasefire resolution is absolutely in alignment with the beauty and power of the oakland community. Please honor the history and people of Oakland by passing this resolution.
More than 13,000 Palestinian civilians (close to 6,000 children) have been killed by Israeli bombs that we, Oakland taxpayers funded. According to the Washington Post, 1 in every 200 Palestinians have been murdered by Israeli military aggression. As a mother, I can not stand by as Israel targets hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and places of worship. Ceasefire now. There is still time to stop this genocidal campaign before winter starts, and according to Save The Children, more than 15,000 mothers will give birth without access to housing and healthcare. Stand with the millions peacefully marching in the streets across the globe. Stand with Doctors Without Borders, Human Rights Watch, the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights, The Red Cross, The Red Crescent, and human rights organizations across the world. Stand with 67% of Americans across party lines who support a ceasefire. Our Oakland communities demand justice and an end to the genocide now.
Oakland has a long history of standing against oppression. It is clear that Israel's bombing will not bringing us closer to peace or justice. Ceasefire now.
Thank you! As a resident of District 2, I urge my representative AND the Oakland City Council to AMEND this resolution to include:
1) condemnation of Hamas, which is a terrorist organization, committed to destroying Israel AND does NOT take care of the innocent Palestinians forced to live under their rule
2)immediate release of the abducted Israelis
3) Hamas must be removed from power, ALL innocent people deserve to be FREE from terrorist rule
Please ceasefire now and permanently. Endorse humanitarian aide. Allow medical supplies to enter unconditionally given the immense number of injuries and wounded civilians.
I was born & raised in Oakland. I currently live & work in Oakland. I've always deeply admires our city's culture & history, including a legacy of leaders who did the right thing, even when it was difficult. I urge the Council to honor those past leaders, honor the wishes of Oakland's residents & honor the history of Oakland itself by calling for a ceasefire in Gaza.
As a Jew who was born and raised in the Bay Area, it is paramount to me that the city of Oakland signs on to support a ceasefire. The siege in Israel-Palestine must end and a permanent ceasefire is the first step to this process. The amount of US money and military aid going to Israel is absurd when the US desperately needs these funds to go to social services for citizens and people living in the US. We must tell Congress to stop funding genocide using taxpayer money.
As a former longtime Oakland resident, I strongly urge city council to support this resolution. A ceasefire is the bare minimum we should be demanding - our tax dollars are being used to practice collective punishment (among other war crimes) on the Palestinian people and destroy or seize their land, and it is inhumane and unconscionable to allow this to continue. Thank you to everyone who is speaking out, organizing against this and supporting this resolution.
As a Jewish resident of Oakland, I urge the city council to adopt this resolution to call for a ceasefire in Gaza and an end to the genocide Israel is committing against Palestinians. We cannot sit idly by as Israel kills tens of thousands of people and destroys Palestinian culture and land. End the occupation.
I fully support this call for a ceasefire ! As a nurse and long time Oakland resident it is my obligation and ethical duty to demand a ceasefire. We can not stand back and continue to watch as lives are taken and the death toll continues to rise. This is a collective punishment , genocide that is targeting hospitals women , children. We can not lose our humanity and stand by and watch. Ceasefire now !
I am an Oakland resident. Thank you to all who organized, wrote, and supported for this resolution to come to a vote. I strongly urge city council to vote in favor of this ceasefire resolution, and will be proud when our city joins countless other organizations and some (hopefully more) municipalities in calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. People are dying. At least 900 whole families have been wiped from this earth. The people of Gaza are being deprived of the core items necessary for life: clean water, food, safety, sleep. We cannot act soon enough. Passing this resolution is obviously not enough, but the least we can do as a city to register our love for the people of Palestine, our commitment to upholding international humanitarian law, and our conviction to speak out in the face of grave injustice and horrific violence. Please vote YES.
I’m an Oakland resident and I demand an immediate ceasefire. We cannot rest until Palestinians are safe and free.

Please pass this resolution to call for a permanent ceasefire. Have the courage to do the right thing and oppose the continuous loss of life.

The endless terror and killing of innocent Gazans must end
Unless it is amended to contain a condemnation of Hamas and a call for their removal.
