Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution (1) Creating The Re-Imagining Public Safety Task Force To Create A Plan To Dramatically Shift Resources From Enforcement And Punishment To Prevention And Wellness For Integration In The Fiscal Year (FY) 2021-23 Budget Using A Robust Engagement Process With Community Stakeholders Rooted In Transparency And Accountability Including Those Who Have Not Been Included In The Conversation, And (2) Waiving The Advertising And Request For Qualifications/Proposals (RFQ/RFP) Process For A Contract With A Consultant Facilitator In An Amount Not To Exceed $100,000, And (3) Authorizing The City Administrator To Accept And Appropriate Future Monetary Or In-Kind Grants, Donations Or Contributions From Federal, State, County, Local Or Other Entities For The Task Force To Carry Out Its Designated Mission
Hello, my name is Jocelyn Cansino and I live in District 3. I fully support the resolution to reimagine a public safety task force. Thank you to Councilmember Nikki Bas for leading this work!
Writing from D5--Thank you to the Council for moving this forward, and for Councilmembers Bas and Taylor for leading this task force. It will not be easy, but I trust we are on the right path.
I am another District 1 resident strongly in favor of this resolution. I specifically ask that you divert funds from armed police to the mobile crisis unit as soon as possible. It has to be 24/7, and it has to have the resources to be able to respond to any emergency, any time. The stresses of the COVID-19 pandemic will continue to exacerbate domestic violence, mental illness, and any number of other crises that do NOT need officers with guns, but do need professional emergency responders that we can rely on.
Resident D1 - I support this measure. We need to defund OPD, re-imagine public safety, and redirect funds to support the community the make Oakland a healthy and thriving community for all.
In strong support of defunding OPD and putting investment towards the Re imagining Public Safety Task Force.
District 3 resident and I strongly support shifting city resources from armed police toward community services, wellness, and prevention.
I am a D6 resident in support a shift from criminalization and punishment under OPD to wellness and prevention under non-police oversight.

As a 15 year resident I support this revolution to decrease funding for enforcement and redirect those funds to community support and prevention
