From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
I am a D4 resident, and I support this resolution AS IS. It is so important for Oakland to stand with justice, and to join the call for a CEASEFIRE NOW. Thank you to Councilmember Fife for your leadership. I will be with you council members who bravely stand on the right side of history--you will have my support! No more US tax money for death, bombs, and weapons of war.
As an Oakland Resident of District 1, I strongly support this resolution for Oakland to support a ceasfire now. Over 14,000 Palestinians have killed by Israel's bombing and ground invasion since December 9th. This includes over 5,500 children. The senseless killing must end.
As an Oakland D2 resident, I strongly support this resolution as written! Thank you for CM Fife for your leadership in drafting this resolution in partnership with Muslim and Jewish leaders to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. It is beyond appalling what we are complicit in with our tax dollars funneled overseas to bomb and attack innocent civilians and children abroad, in Gaza and beyond. This IS a local issue, and I'm grateful for our electeds like CM Fife to take action to prevent more innocent lives from being lost.
As a Bay Area resident, I am urging the Oakland city council to support calls for an immediate AND permanent ceasefire and the end to US military aid to Israel. Additionally, the rapid entry of adequate humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the nearly 2 million Gazans trapped in the Strip.
As a proud anti-zionist Jew, born and raised in Oakland, I implore Oakland City Council to stand on the side of justice and freedom for all by firmly supporting a permanent ceasefire. None of us are free until we can all live with freedom and dignity. My family did not narrowly survive generations of pogroms and ethnic cleansing to simply turn around and inflict the same terror on others. As a trauma-specialized therapist and social worker, I know all too well how this ongoing bombardment will only cause horrible intergenerational wounds for Palestinians and Jews alike. Ceasefire now, I beg of you.
As an Oakland resident with Jewish heritage, I strongly support the resolution calling for immediate ceasefire. Thank you Councilmember Fife for recommending and Council President Bas for your verbal support. In accordance with the city's values and it's Love Life Commitment, we absolutely cannot stand by while this genocide gets carried out in real-time. Not in our names. My hope is that we can add pressure to the congressional calls for ceasefire - and set precedent for larger and larger cities to do the same. This resolution is in the interest of Israeli's + Palestinians alike, as well as Jews, Muslims, and every other marginilized group throughout the world. Our collective liberation is intertwined. Ceasefire now.
As an Oakland resident and voter, I not only support this resolution but demand that the Oakland City Council affirm our community and global support for a ceasefire in Gaza.
We represent a collective of Speech, Language, and Hearing Science students at California State University, East Bay as well as a growing number of students across the Bay Area, who are bearing witness to the genocide of the Palestinian people in Gaza.
We have voluntarily stepped up to become educated in the field so that we can help our community, and so that we can be bridges for people to access self-determination. Our field informs us that we are to advocate for those who face obstacles in speech, language, and communication. We are using this education now to speak up for the people of Palestine and all innocent civilians who have been harmed. The killings committed on October 7th do not justify genocide. We urge the leaders of this country to call for a ceasefire, end military aid to Israel, and send humanitarian efforts to Gaza. With the death toll reaching over 14,000, which includes over 5,000 children, we have already wasted time.

I strongly support this resolution! The Palestinian people are calling for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, an end to Israeli military attacks on refugee camps in southern Lebanon, an end to Israel’s siege of Gaza and its 16-year blockade, unimpeded access to humanitarian aid to Gaza, the release of all Palestinian political prisoners, an end to the 75-year occupation, including a complete withdrawal of troops and settlers from the West Bank and East Jerusalem, genocide, and apartheid policies restricting the movement and participation of Palestinian people.
COMPLETELY support an immediate call for Ceasefire; additionally calling for the immediate reallocation of our CA tax dollars being spent locally vs being sent to Israel to support a war and massacre of children

I am opposed. Hamas is a terrorist organization that is running out of Gaza. Terrorism must not be tolerated.
Free Palestine! From the belly of one empire to another, we must do whatever we can to end colonial aggression.
I support a ceasefire in Gaza because we in Oakland know what it’s like to resist oppression and we need to stand with our family abroad.
We should be supporting Israel against terrorism and bringing the hostages home. Anything else is not acceptable.
