It's absolutely wild that this genocide and apartheid occupation has been allowed to continue.

Dear Council, my name is David Gluck. I am an Oakland resident and taxpayer. I am requesting that you amend the proposed resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza to condemn Hamas and call for their permanent removal from power. The Hamas charter is explicitly antisemitic, calling for the murder of all Jews worldwide. They do not call for a Palestinian state, but rather the elimination of Israel. The State of Israel removed all Jews from Gaza in 2005 and ended the military occupation at that time. The response to this “land-for-peace” attempt has been continuous terrorism directed at Israel, as opposed to state-building efforts. Instead of using the opportunity to help the people of Gaza, Hamas has appropriated most of the resources to build a massive terrorism infrastructure. These efforts have hurt the citizens of Gaza while inflicting constant pain against Israel. Therefore, your resolution under consideration today needs to include a non-ambiguous condemnation of Hamas and a call for the immediate release of all hostages and the dismantling of Hamas. Thank you for your consideration.

As a dedicated member of this community, I implore this council to stand in solidarity with the cause of humanity and urgently call on congress for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza, the restoration of critical supplies and infrastructure in Gaza, and the respect for international law.

I want to remind the council that this genocide is being funded by our hard-earned tax dollars to which I say no thank you. No thank you while you have not even addressed the rise of homelessness within our community, or better yet when do you plan on paving the roads of Oakland?

Oakland is the home of so many social Justice movements that pushed for our freedoms collectively as Americans. We must continue supporting efforts to end the killing of thousands of human beings! Free Palestine. Permanent Ceasefire Now

I am a Bay Area born and raised Jew whose ancestors have been staging a sit-in in my dreams, demanding I do whatever I can to stop the genocide against Palestinians that is happening in my name and with my tax dollars. I am adding my voice to the many many thousands of Jews here in Oakland who are demanding an immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza and who believe that Jewish safety is intertwined with Palestinian safety. We know the only path to peace and justice starts with a ceasefire now. Elected leaders have a moral mandate to speak out against the atrocities being funded by our government and as a progressive city, Oakland has the responsibility and opportunity to take a strong stand against genocide, and in support of peace, human rights, and safety for Palestinians and Jews. I reject the dangerous idea that opposing Israeli military action is anti-semitic. Speaking out against genocide is the most authentic way to honor my Jewish values and my history. Never again for anyone. I strongly support this resolution.

A ceasefire is required immediately. The whole world has watched the destruction of Gaza and its people in the past month. It is truly mind boggling that such atrocious war crimes have not been stopped. Those opposing a ceasefire because they condemn terrorism are entirely contradicting themselves. Israel is murdering thousands of people a day, most of whom are women and children. They are committing terrorism and genocide on a governmental level, shamelessly.

As an Oakland business owner I strongly support this resolution. The US is financially and militarily supporting the ethnic cleansing of Gaza and the occupied territories in the West Bank, and the war crimes committed by the Israeli military, in direct contravention of multiple UN resolutions. This has to end now. Thanks to the Oakland City Council for taking action on this important matter.

I am a bay area resident and I am writing to call for the immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the West bank, and for the end to US support of Israel and its occupation of Palestine. As the daughter of Vietnamese refugees, the brutality that Israel has inflicted on Palestinians is horrifying and familiar. We have all seen the videos and images of children's bodies, grieving family, displacement, starvation, permanently disabled survivors with no access to medication, etc. By supporting Israel, the US supports the bombing of hospitals, refugee camps, and schools and the lasting torture of the Palestinian people. This ceasefire should have happened long ago. Oakland must stand on the right side of history.

I wholeheartedly support this resolution. It is the least we can do to show that our city stands with Palestinians and their right to life and dignity.

I strongly support this resolution calling for a ceasefire. We must take action to support the Palestinian people and put an end to this genocide. This resolution is one small but important step in the right direction.

Please pass the resolution in support of a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Stand against the normalization of Israel's occupation and genocide of Palestinian people. The city should not support the killing of thousands of Palestinians, including over 6,000 children.

I am a D1 resident and I strongly support this Ceasefire In Gaza resolution AS-IS. It is horrifying to see the casualties, displacement, and trauma that is occurring daily in Gaza. This violence doesn't help anyone, including the people of Israel. It doesn't create safety, but instead harms people and undermines the path to peace and true safety. This is our tax money used to destroy lives and create longterm conflict and violence. Thank you to all Councilmembers supporting this resolution as we push for change at the state, federal, and international level.

As a Bay Area resident, I am urging the Oakland city council to support calls for an immediate AND permanent ceasefire and the end to US military aid to Israel. Additionally, please prioritize humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of the nearly 2 million Gazans trapped in the Strip.

Oakland has a strong record of being at the forefront of social justice. Recently, The residents and local leaders of Oakland implemented meaningful change to policing to address systemic racial inequalities. Now, we must stand for ceasefire in Gaza. Israel is the recipient of US foreign aid, its largest recipient. Therefore it’s important for the United States and its local governments to call on Israel to abide by international law and human rights law in using that aid. Collective punishment is condemned by all forms of international law. What is happening in Gaza is collective punishment. The number of lives lost, and the number of lives forever brutalized in Gaza is beyond comprehension and unacceptable. We must stand for ceasefire now before more lives are lost to indiscriminate bombing and shelling in one the most densely populated places on earth.

I support efforts for a sustained ceasefire. We must end the killing of innocent people. I hope these efforts are just the beginning of a push for a sustained peace process. The US should stop providing military aid to the far-right Israeli government with no strings attached. Military aid should be tied to: 1) Israel removing troops from Gaza and an international humanitarian effort to rebuild Gaza and establish a non-Hamas government supported by Palestinians, Egypt, Jordan and Gulf states, 2) ending the occupation of the West Bank and agreeing to a two state solution along the Green Line with agreed upon land swaps, 3) ensuring security for Israel and Palestinians, and promoting liberal democracies in both countries.

I support this resolution in the strongest capacity. Calling for a ceasefire is the bare minimum. Oakland City Council members have the obligation as representatives of a city rooted in activism and social justice to pass this resolution. They have an obligation as human beings, to call for the end to the daily acts of genocide and ethnic cleansing that are being committed against the Palestinian people. We will remember this council's actions in the coming elections. Ceasefire NOW.

There was a ceasefire and Hamas/Palestine broke the ceasefire, it is immoral to tell Israel not to defend itself, if you actually wanted a ceasefire you should begin with the only people who keep breaking them, Hamas. Additionally, it is in appropriate for Oakland to get involved in A) a foreign affair B) a very contentious and complicated one with mixed support.
