My name is Ana Castillo I live in East Oakland and I am a Oakland hotel worker. I strongly support the proposed Right to Recall ordinance. Workers in our community need your help. Workers who have been laid off due to the Covid pandemic should have the opportunity to get their old jobs back before companies start hiring new employees. It's especially important for workers who've dedicated more time to working for a business to have the first chance at coming back to work. Please support the Right to Recall Ordinance with seniority rights

My name is Dolores Moreno and I am a resident of Oakland Ca. I am emailing in support of the proposed Right to Recall ordinance that will be heard by the CED Committee on June 29th. Please support the all the workers that have been laid off due to the pandemic and do not know if they will be able to return to work any time soon. The city should step up and assure that the these employees have their job offered to them before the companies begin to hire new staff. Please help us on this urgent matter. Thank you very much.

My name is Tamara Wyman. I’m a hotel worker in Oakland. I'm writing in support of the proposed Right to Recall ordinance. I have worked at the Hilton Oakland Airport for 15 years. Because of the coronavirus, I have been laid off for three months. The majority of hotel and food service workers are laid off, and many don’t know if they will have a job to go back to. Workers need the City Council to act now to give them some hope. Workers who have been laid off due to the Covid pandemic should have the opportunity to get their old jobs back before companies start hiring new employees. My name is Zach and I live in D1 in Oakland. As someone who has worked in the hospitality industry I strongly support this legislation. Workers who have been laid off and dealing with how to feed their families, pay rent, and figure out healthcare deserve, at the bare minimum, the right to return to their work.

This is horribly drafted legislation, despite its good intention. It runs counter to all basic norms of HR/employment practices, is unnecessarily cumbersome (certified mail?), makes absolutely zero sense for hospitality industry (a variable shift industry where revenues fluctuate weekly, even in normal times), way too broad in scope (focus on the real predators, not small businesses), is ridiculously easy for the big businesses w/ ample resources to get around while exposing small businesses to predatory litigation and ridiculous costs. If you want to help workers, help small businesses PAY THEIR RENT so we can actually be around to re-open & employ people when this is over. And please also take a look at ROC’s own issues before partnering with them on bills: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-a-black-queer-mother-unlawfully-fired-blm.

This is such a waste of resources. Focus on helping businesses avoid permanent closure & keep employees SAFE from infection instead.

Awful, and impractical. Everyone deserves their job back but this is just more red tape and poorly laid out. Wait 10 days for a response form an employee? how does that make sense? it's also impossible. so if you have 5 employees it could take up to 50 days to fill one position? Registered mail notifications? have you ever run a business before?

I live in District 2 and fully support the Right to Recall ordinance. I find it unconscionable that companies are threatening not to rehire long-time workers when they reopen, and I call on the Council to act now to give them some hope. Mara Moreno over 4 years ago

My name is Maria Moreno. I work and support other workers in food service all over the City of Oakland through my work with the worker's rights organization, the Restaurant Opportunities Center of The Bay and through being a restaurant worker in this city myself. I strongly support the proposed Right to Recall ordinance. Our workers deserve job security especially during a time where the food service industry has been one of the hardest hit in this pandemic. Every day I receive several calls a day from workers who have no idea if or when they will be called back into work. Their uncertainty is heartbreaking and we must do something about it now. At the same time, I see Now Hiring virtual and physical signs from businesses in Oakland who I know had a fully hired staff pre-pandemic and I have heard from workers about places not calling them back, but new workers being hired. We must do something about this now! Our workers deserve their jobs back!

We are not asking businesses to do more than they are capable, we are not asking for a handout either. We are only asking to do right by the employees who were successfully helping our economy thrive to be supported by being re-hired. Please support the Right to Recall Ordinance and pass it without delay!

My name is Jessie. I am writing from Los Angeles in SUPPORT of this important policy because we so desperately need protection for Oakland's restaurant workforce! We have to serve and support the workers who have served and supported us long before and after COVID-19. Why waste so much time and energy thinking about change and pondering the importance? I beg you to consider this; consider the fact that we have sent a clear signal to restaurant workers for TOO LONG that they are not essential, not deserving, not entitled to benefits or not even given the stability of working full-time and having the money to show for it. Don't consider...DO PASS THIS POLICY
