From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
I previously worked in Oakland as an educator and am a resident of Alameda County. I strongly support an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, and urge the City Council of Oakland to do the same. A ceasefire is urgently needed to save human lives and put an end to the humanitarian crisis and genocide in occupied Palestine.
I support the resolution for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. I do not want my tax dollars supporting genocide and murder of innocent civilians. Do the right thing!
Resident and employee in the city of Oakland on Ohlone land. It is imperative that we as a city raise up in support of the oppressed and say “Ceasefire Now!”
As a district 1 resident, I call on the council to hear your constituents voices and use your position to call for an end to the genocide. Please support this resolution, call for a permanent ceasefire and a free Palestine.
As a resident and healthcare worker in Oakland, District 6, I am in support of the proposed ceasefire resolution. All Oakland elected officials must stand against genocide, not only as a moral imperative, but as people chosen to represent this historically Black, progressive town. Genocide anywhere is a threat to all of us. Palestinian families in Oakland are losing loved ones on a daily basis in Gaza, and closer to home they are experiencing increased threats of Islamophobia and anti-Palestinian racism and violence. Each of us has a role to play in stopping the genocide in Gaza. Vote yes and support an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
I am a resident of the Fruitvale neighborhood/District 5 and a parent to a student in one of our neighborhood schools. I call on our City Council members to do the right thing and pass a resolution for an immediate and complete ceasefire in Gaza. We must end the bloodshed and suffering that is happening and the first concrete step to doing this, is to start by calling for a ceasefire.
As a resident of D3, I support the resolution for ceasefire. My tax dollars are being used to create a moral and humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the council must stand with Palestinians and it's own constituents who are deeply impacted by rising Islamophobia and antisemitism. A pause is not enough! I support permanent ceasefire as a longterm solution. As someone whose family lived under occupation, this is and will continue to be a deeply important issue to me. Ceasefire now!
My name is Natalie Silvestro and I am a Jewish resident of District 1. I urge the Oakland City Council to vote in support of the ceasefire resolution so we can join the majority of people across the world calling for an end to bloodshed and a ceasefire in Gaza.
As an American Jew, I am appalled and ashamed at how the Israeli government and military, with the vast support of the U.S. government, is manipulating Jewish grief to justify the mass murdering and ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, too many of which are children. Growing up Jewish, I was raised to value all human life as precious, to care for my neighbors and community members, and to fight for what is right. I was also raised to fight for Never Again for Anyone--to never stand idly in the face of genocide. I stand with the rapidly growing number of Oakland Jews in demanding a Ceasefire Now, and shouting loud and clear, Not In Our Name. Passing a ceasefire resolution does not make Oakland Jews unsafe, nor is it anti-semetic. In fact, fighting for an end to violence and Palestinian safety is fully aligned with my Jewish values. Jewish safety is bound in Palestinian safety. None of us are free until we are all free. CEASEFIRE NOW!
I am Bay Area resident and I am writing to ask for your support in calling for and immediate ceasefire in Israel/Palestine. I’m highly uncomfortable with my tax dollars funding genocide. ✌🏼
I believe that the city of Oakland values humanity, equality, justice, and liberation. We must take a stand for Justice and stay rooted in our values. This is why I urge you to vote yes on this resolution. Cease fire now! And end the occupation.
As an educator and resident of oakland and an American jew, I speak with the resilience and strength of my grandparents who survived the holocaust. It is imperative that Oakland signs in support of a ceasefire resolution. We cannot continue to be complicit in genocide by our silence and federal funding—let’s end our silence now. Please represent the voice of your constituents!
Thank you Councilwoman Fife for introducing this resolution. Thank you for representing me as a constituent in Adam’s Point.
As a Jewish American Oakland resident for 24 years, I urge the Council to pass this resolution to support a ceasefire in Gaza. This is particularly important for Oakland as a port city, where ships carrying weapons to Israel may pass through our port. I believe we must do everything we can to stop the violence and to support diplomatic solutions.
I am an Oakland resident and calling on you to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Israel/Palestine!!! The genocide happening in Palestine is NOT okay, and the fact that the United States, and our tax dollars as Oakland residents, are funding this horrific violence, must be stopped IMMEDIATELY. Please please do the right thing! Ceasefire now!
I am writing to call upon the rich history of solidarity that our beloved city of Oakland proudly embodies, urging you to 1) pass the resolution in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza, who are being subject to ethnic cleansing and genocide by the Israeli state backed by the United States, and to demand a CEASEFIRE NOW. Already, over 14000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army, with more than 5000 of them being children.
Oakland has long stood at the forefront of global movements for justice and peace, and history can attest to that. Congressman Ron Dellums, who subsequently became the mayor of Oakland from 2007-2011, pioneered the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act, calling for an end to apartheid in South Africa. This is a piece of history that the city of Oakland and the United States can be proud of for generations. I also find hope in the calls to action from Jewish allies when they say: “‘Never Again’, means never again for anyone”, and this heartwarming solidarity they have displayed with pro-Palestinian voices.
We are counting on you to be there and vote to support calling for a permanent ceasefire. We are calling upon Oakland to carry out a social justice legacy. We can set a powerful precedent to hopefully lead a wave of solidarity across the nation.
Thank you for your attention and commitment to making a difference.
I am a resident of District 2 and I support this resolution! Let Oakland continue the legacy of social justice. We've passed anti apartheid act before, i believe we will continue to be on the right side of history now.
As a Jewish resident of Oakland, I urge the Oakland City Council to align their actions with their values and call for a ceasefire. We must stand in solidarity with both our Palestinian neighbors whose families are being torn apart and our Jewish neighbors whose historical trauma is being exploited for imperialistic gains. Thank you to the council members who are supporting a resolution for a ceasefire. Meredith Pakier, District 1 Resident.
Please represent me, a Jewish Oakland resident by confirming this resolution calling with urgency for a full ceasefire, not just a pause in hostilities. Free Palestine!

I support the City of Oakland issuing a resolution calling for a ceasefire in Gaza and end of US-funded mass killings of Palestinians.

Sincerely,
A sustained ceasefire is needed to prevent further civilian deaths and provide safety for people in dire need of critical humanitarian assistance.
As an Oakland resident for more than 50 years, I support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. Out with genocide !!
