From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
My name is Astha Sharma Pokharel, I’m a resident of Oakland District 1, and I’m a human rights lawyer.
I’m calling on you to support this critical and historic resolution. I am so proud that this City Council has heard the voices of the communities it represents by introducing this resolution, and today it had a chance to stand firmly on the right side of history.
The issue is critical to me and to all Oakland residents because important resources that could be going to necessary community needs such as healthcare, education, social services — an overwhelming and unparalleled amount of those resources — are instead being sent by the United States to fund the attack on Gaza, and the occupation of Palestine and Israel’s apartheid regime more broadly.
The state of California looks to you all - to Oakland City Council members - to be a leading voice on social justice issues, to direct us toward ending this genocide. I call on you to support the ceasefire resolution today.
At the last city council meeting, we spent six hours to make sure you heard, public comment after public comment, how we, your constituents, are urging you to draft and pass this resolution.
Until this resolution is passed, we will continue using every single avenue at our disposal to make sure you do not ignore our pleas. You do not want to sit through another 6 hours of public comments. We have more productive things to do than mobilize for another 6 hours of public comments. So please vote for this resolution and let's get it done.
I support an immediate, permanent Ceasefire NOW in Palestine. Please also end military support to Israel and de-occupy Palestine. This resolution for Ceasefire supports life and love.
I am a resident of District 2. As a community member I strongly support the resolution and believe it is our duty to act as soon as possible to prevent more tragic loss of life.
As a Jewish constituent, I support this resolution and call for an immediate ceasefire. We cannot be silent in the face of genocide, and need to end US support to this genocide.
CEASE FIRE NOW!! This resolution showing support of an immediate and permanent cease fire is incredibly important and aids in saving lives. Our tax dollars are being used to fund a genocide that no one wants. CEASE FIRE NOW!!!
I write in strong support of this resolution, which affirms that Oakland places the sanctity of life over profit and militarism, both for our communities here and in Gaza. Ceasefire now, end the occupation!
My name is Christina Robinson, and I'm a resident of District 6 in s Oakland. I urge the council to support this critical resolution. The violence in Gaza is made possible by my tax dollars, and I reject genocide in my name with my tax dollars. The Oakland City Council has the opportunity to lead the nation in rejecting genocide in our city's name.
As a District 4 Resident, I strongly support this resolution because I love life. I will remember how our city council acts today, and I will continue to support those that love lifeT, value life and are courageous in being on the right side of history. This is about protecting life. Ceasefire now.
I'm a Jewish resident of Oakland,
As a descendant of holocaust survivors, I recognize that Israel is committing a genocide and ethnic cleansing against Palestinians and I find it imperative that Oakland City Council sign on to a strong resolution calling for a ceasefire, not just a truce, and condemning the current violence and naming Israel as a settler colonial state. Oakland city council needs to take action now in order to live up to its values of standing up for social and racial justice here and world wide. I need to have faith in Oakland.
My name is Ariel, and I am a resident of ivy hill, in district 2. Im here as a Jew, asking you to support this critical resolution for ceasefire and solidarity with Palestine, because I don't believe that we can afford to have a genocide of this magnitude on our conscience, without doing everything in our power to oppose it and voice our dissent. It must end. I say this as a gay Jew specifically, because Israel uses Queer rights as a weapon to justify murder and occupation. I was raised to love and support the state of Israel and to dismiss all anti Zionism as anti semitism. It is uncomfortable to turn away from that, to face the atrocities that been happening in my name but I am inspired by Jewish and Palestinian leaders who have been standing against occupation for decades, and I promise that if you stand on the right side of history today, it will not be forgotten. Never again is now.
As citizens of Oakland we should support a ceasefire because it is the right thing to do- for our community and for humanity. We oppose our tax dollars being used to fund a genocide. Ceasefire now!
CEASEFIRE NOW! We have an obligation to protect human life and to oppose the killing and destruction as our tax dollars are being used to fund the war and occupation. Public school teacher here demanding a ceasefire NOW!
As a Jewish lesbian I vehemently reject the weaponization of Jewish trauma to justify a genocide! As a constituent of D3 I say NOT IN MY NAME! Ceasefire now, and free Palestine!
I have lived and worked in Oakland for over 20 years and I am in support of the proposed ceasefire resolution. We must stand against genocide. Genocide anywhere is a threat to all of us. Vote yes and support an immediate and permanent ceasefire.
I strongly support a ceasefire

I am a district 2 resident and business owner in district 3. Thank you to councilmembers supporting this ceasefire. We also support you!
I support this resolution as a resident of District 2. We can’t be silent while the US government funds war crimes.
