Hi, I live and work in Oakland. I’ve been an Oakland resident my whole adult life.
Paid Sick days are a protection for the whole city, because if people are sick and go to work, we are all risk... what is guaranteed if you deny this proposal for paid sick days, you will have to live with the consequences of thousands of deaths.
I'm a D2 resident and homeowner in support of the emergency paid sick days ordinance. If we want to have any hope of continuing to flatten the curve in Oakland, workers need to be able to take paid sick days when they are sick. It's as simple as that. That's how we honor the sacrifice of essential workers while keeping everyone in our community safe. Please vote YES on the emergency paid sick days ordinance.
I support paid sick days. I'm an Oakland voter in district 7. My family all have worked service jobs to bring in some money to the family, now with the COVID that little bit of money is in exchange for risking their lives.
This city council can help protect them. I beg you, help my family, help Oakland, save lives.
My name is Tony Evans. I am a worker at Oakland Coliseum and arena, and I live in the uptown neighborhood. I've lived in Oakland a my whole 66 years of life. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance.
Working people in Oakland are risking their lives to provide essential services, I ask you to give us a chance to live, these jobs are done by Black and Brown people who cannot afford to stay home if sick, you owe us the right to live ! Paid Sick Days NOW.
Oakland workers show up to work, unlike 4 of you... who boycotted this meeting just to make us suffer longer... The people of Oakland deserve better than that.
My name is Angela and I live in District 7. I support the emergency sick pay ordinance and urge City Council members to pass the Emergency Sick Pay ordinance. Workers need access to immediate paid sick days to help flatten the curve and protect themselves and our community. Workers who've been laid off need an assurance that when it is safe to return to work, they still have a job. Keep Oakland workers and our community safe!
Sick leave protects employees and the community at large from the spread of COVID-19. Workers need to be able to stay home if they are experiencing symptoms to protect everyone's health.
My name is Donna Bransford and I live in D6 in Maxwell Park. I strongly support the Paid Sick Days Ordinance and I urge City Councilmembers to vote yes to support Oakland's workers and families. Essential service workers are taking care of all of us, making it possible for my family and many others to shelter in place. We need to do our part and take care of them!
Vote yes to protect Oakland workers and our community! Thank you.
My name is Robert Layman. I am a worker at the Claremont Hotel and I live in the Temescal neighborhood.
I urge you to pass the Emergency Sick Days ordinance.
Such an ordinance puts health first by not pressuring working people to sacrifice their well-being and health for their jobs. The health and well-being of a society and economy are contingent on the health and well-being of everyone in it. The economy has no chance of functioning in any meaningful way if is not on a healthy foundation.

My name is Mike Chase, and I write this representing the ACLU’s Paul Robeson Chapter and its thousands of members who are Oakland residents. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance and to get the Department of Workplace Standards and Enforcement up and running by July, as required by Measure Z.
The city should support frontline service workers, who are supporting all of us who are staying home, by making sure we can acquire essential items, and by keeping our economy going.
My name is Mario Savioni. I am a worker at the Fairmont - Claremont Hotel - Limewood Restaurant and live in Walnut Creek. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days Ordinance and to stand for the Department of Workplace Standards and Enforcement, as required by Measure Z.
As a frontline service worker, who is also a heart patient with five stents, and 80-90% systemically clogged, I am supporting myself and those like me, who are sheltered in place by making sure we can acquire essential items, and by keeping our economy going. The city should support service workers by making sure that they have access to immediate paid sick days (agenda item #9) to help flatten the curve and protect ourselves and our community. Thank you for your time.
My name is Jocelyn Wallace. I am a worker and I live in East Oakland. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance.
Essential workers are putting themselves at risk just so they can pay their bills, and many don't have a choice. There's a lot of workers forced to show up to work despite feeling unwell, because they don't have enough paid sick leave. That's a huge risk to EVERYONE and will not flatten the curve. The people that are still working are the ones helping the economy continue to run, and their needs have to be met.
My name is Ramon Ruano. I am a worker here in the city of Oakland.
I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance.
Frontline service workers
are supporting all of us who are sheltered in place by making sure we can acquire essential items, and by keeping our economy
going. The city should support service workers by making sure that they have access to immediate paid sick days to help flatten the curve and protect themselves and our community.
We are calling on the City Council to show leadership to protect our frontline service workers by voting yes on the emergency paid

I'm an East Oakland resident and I strongly support the Emergency Paid Leave legislation. This will protect essential workers who are not covered by the federal paid leave standards. If we are going to keep our community thriving, we need to ensure that nobody is choosing between their paycheck and their safety. Oakland should be a leader and model for nearby cities how we are continuing to flatten the curve and keep our people from falling through the cracks in the system.
My name is Zach and I live in North Oakland. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance.
Having paid sick leave, and have a department to strictly enforce it is necessary for health of these frontline workers and the communities they serve!

I am an East Oakland native and I am in full support of the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance. I urge Oakland City Council to pass a strong Paid Sick Days ordinance, that is permanent and consistent, requiring all employers to provide universal, immediate paid sick leave during all public health emergencies. With a Right to Return policy, this ordinance should also protect workers' livelihoods by ensuring that they still have a job to return to when it is safe. With that, stand up the Department of Workplace & Employment Standards to execute this ordinance!
