My name is Enrique. I am former restaurant worker. I live in East Oakland. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance and to stand up the Department of Workplace Standards and Enforcement, as required by Measure Z.
Frontline service workers are supporting all of us who are sheltered in place by making sure we can acquire essential items, and by keeping our economy going. The city should support service workers by making sure that they have access to immediate paid sick days (agenda item #9) to help flatten the curve and protect themselves and our community.
We are calling on the City Council to show leadership to protect our frontline service workers by voting yes on the emergency paid sick days ordinance (item #9) and making sure the Department of Workplace & Employment Standards (agenda items #7 & 8) is up and running by this July, according to Measure Z. We need the DWES to make these laws real and uphold workers’ rights. Please stand for up this Department today

My name is Samuel Jimenez. I am a bartender. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance and to stand up the Department of Workplace Standards and Enforcement, as required by Measure Z.
Hospitality, retail and food service workers are the most at risk employees outside of our first responders. It's important to protect them to continue to stimulate our economy and protect the culture of the city.
Frontline service workers are supporting all of us who are sheltered in place by making sure we can acquire essential items, and by keeping our economy going. The city should support service workers by making sure that they have access to immediate paid sick days to help flatten the curve and protect themselves and our community.
I am a long standing resident of Oakland (39 years) and strongly support the Emergency Ordinance to provide paid sick leave to Oakland employees. Please vote yes!
I'm in support of the Emergency Paid Sick Days and Right to Recall ordinance. We need to return the favor to essential workers who keep us all safe. If they can't take off and recuperate when they're sick, we can't flatten the curve. We need to support Oakland workers during this time of huge hardship.
My name is Maria Gonzalez Mariscal. I am a worker at Hyatt Hotel and I live in East Oakland. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance. I support this because I find it important that Essential workers have access to care since we are dependent on them for services and the economy. These workers are putting their life and the life of their communities at risk.
I also urge you to stand up the Department of Workplace Standards and Enforcement, as required by Measure Z. As a hotel employee we are calling on the City Council to show leadership to protect our frontline service workers by voting yes on the emergency paid sick days ordinance (item #9) and making sure the Department of Workplace & Employment Standards (agenda items #7 & 8) is up and running by this July, according to Measure Z. My name is Embely Juárez, I live in East Oakland District 5, I want to thank our City Council members for all their support to our community and hard work. As we know COVID19 is affecting our community and the world, we are worried about our friends and families who work for hotels, some of them have been working for years, they are not having paid sick days, they work hard everyday for those big hotels with good profits but at this time they’re are not providing their rights as should be, their are fighting every day for their right but it’s hard because these big companies do not care about their health, your attention to this situation and support is a big relief and can make a difference for all workers in oakland, these is the reason why I urge you to pass And vote YES for the Emergency Paid Sick Days Ordinance.
My name is Yash Bazian and I’m Uber & Lyft driver. I live in East Oakland.
I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance and to stand up the Department of Workplace Standards and Enforcement, as required by Measure Z.
We need a universal Pay sick leaves for the following reasons:
1- It’s a public health issue. If an Uber or Lyft’s driver is sick, cold or coronavirus, it will spread to his/her passengers.
2- Every time we have a passenger in the car, we exchange energy, negative or positive.at the end of the day, after dealing with 20 -30 passengers, our energy is drain. When our energy is drain, our immune system become vulnerable to diseases and viruses. Sick days is part of the job and to work almost 7 days a week, we need to get rest so we don’t get sick.
I support Universal pay sick leaves.
My name is Heather Appel. I live and work in Oakland and I want to thank my council member, Sheng Thao, for her leadership on protecting essential workers. I urge you to pass the Emergency Paid Sick Days ordinance.
Frontline service workers are supporting me and my neighbors by making sure we can acquire essential items, and by keeping our economy going. I also urge you to stand up the Department of Workplace Standards and Enforcement, as required by Measure Z. Hello my name is Romana Guerrero. I am a open residence for over 35 years. The workers in the city of Oakland really need to make sure that they have protection during this epidemic. To make sure workers don't have to choose between getting themselves and their family sick or putting food on the table do the right thing and stop the spread in the city that I love Oakland.
Dear Councilmembers: Please vote YES to expand emergency paid sick days. This common sense public policy should have been adopted at the onset of the Covid pandemic many weeks ago. Workers are literally risking their lives to keep food on the table and to help keep our economy going. All workers, especially those on the frontlines of this crisis, deserve the peace of mind in knowing that if they fall ill, they'll have access to paid sick days so they can take time off from work to take care of themselves. Other bay area cities like San Francisco and San Jose have recently enacted similar policies. The City of Oakland should do the same!
Thank you,
Liana Molina

Paid sick leave for workers will create a safe environment for businesses to re-open knowing that sick employees will feel financially secure if they show symptoms of COVID19 therefore avoiding a second wave of sickness and death that experts say, may be worst that the first wave.
Thank you and please do make sure that measure Z is followed in this very scary time to be a hotel worker.
