I was born in Oakland and grew up in Oakland. I adamantly oppose the building of any new data centers in Oakland. Data centers around the country are negatively impacting water supply and surrounding infrastructure, disproportionally affecting Black and Brown communities. This particular location is close to schools, a BART station, and Lake Merritt, among many other Oakland landmarks. BART is already in trouble of being severely defunded - what happens when there’s a power outage at BART due to the electricity needs of the data center? Oakland is already in the middle of a debate about pollutants because of the potential lift on the truck ban on 580 - what about the pollutants from the data center?

The jobs that a data center may create are not the kind of jobs that build the community up. Local government should be thinking about how to drive more revenue and foot traffic to small businesses, not how to attract the attention of corrupt millionaires and billionaires. Oakland has been a haven for creatives and political activists for decades. Why would we rewrite the history that makes Oakland what it is?

I've lived in the East Bay for over 40 years, and in Oakland for 20. I love Oakland and I love being an Oaklander. Oaklanders have a vision for the future of our city- and it includes affordable housing; clean streets; thriving, walkable neighborhoods; green parks; and as always, an unbeatable culture.

Our vision for Oakland's future is at risk when billionaires move in with their plans to build tech campuses and AI manufacturing plants. When their plans wipe out our vision, jobs disappear, rents go up (along with utility costs), and we aren't event being told what will happen to our parks and green spaces. Our culture will be lost when, once again, native Oaklanders will inevitably be displaced by tech settlers.

But we have a chance to protect our vision. Millions of people around the country have already said that the future of their towns won't be decided by a billionaire. Over half of the data centers planned in 2026 so far have been stopped. We can be fighters, too. I urge the City Council to follow Councilmember Fife's lead a pass the strictest moratorium on data centers, and then a permanent ban.

I am a resident of the Jefferson/Allendale neighborhood of Oakland and I am opposed to data centers being built in Oakland for any size and for any purpose.

As we have seen from news stories across the country, data centers greatly burden water and electricity resources of the communities they are built in, which has caused water and electricity shortages, as well as rising electricity costs, in various cities across the country. It is for this reason that I do not think Oakland residents should front the cost of these potential data centers, through our resources and utility costs, for the profit of technocrat billionaires. Two of the billionaires proposing to use Oakland real estate for this purpose are Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, the formers company is actively destroying the environment, while the later is actively dismantling American democracy. For anyone considering data centers in Oakland, I ask you if you are willing to sacrifice the city’s and residents’ resources for the enlargement of these men’s wealth and power.

I implore city council pass a temporary moratorium, and hopefully, eventually, a permanent ban of all AI data centers in Oakland. I urge council members to follow the leadership of councilmember Fife and support this moratorium.

I strongly urge City Council to pass the 45-day moratorium on data centers. Action taken on this item is part of a larger nation-wide fight against the tech industry to exploit our land, homes, water, and electricity. Allowing one, even if it's claimed to be "small" will set a precedent and will encourage the tech industry to build more harmful data centers that Oaklanders DO NOT WANT. Listen to your constituents!!

Please show your loyalty to the people of Oakland by BANNING ALL DATA CENTERS.

I support passing a moratorium on data centers in Oakland because I don’t want a data center of any size using our resources or reshaping our neighborhoods for the benefit of tech billionaires and real estate developers.

I live and work in Oakland, and I strongly urge City Council to pass the 45-day moratorium on data centers. The people of Oakland do not want a data center of any size. We understand that this is part of a larger nation-wide fight against the tech industry to exploit our land, homes, water, and electricity to make profit without benefit to us, the everyday people.
AI will not bring jobs and development to Oakland. AI destroys jobs. The autonomous fleet of vehicles proposed as part of the STAK development will put Uber/Lyft drivers out of a job. Any tech jobs brought in by the AI start-ups will be temporary, until they code themselves out of existence. I know of many tech workers who have been laid off because of AI. Please show your loyalty to the people of Oakland by BANNING ALL DATA CENTERS.

No one is proposing to build a massive GPU farm in Oakland. What is proposed are small data centers to support research and local jobs. We should not be trying to regulate these small data centers. These proposed projects will result in a positive impact by employing Oakland residents, occupying otherwise vacant buildings, paying property and local business taxes, and reducing the distance electricity has to travel vs. if the data center were located in a rural area.

The City Council has more important work to do than taking up arms against tech companies.

Billionaires are trying to buy Oakland’s future and turn it into a playground for big tech. We already saw this happen during the .com bust: Oaklanders lost their homes.

The people who live in Oakland should be the ones deciding the future of our city. Oaklanders live here, we know what problems we face, and we know how we could use our resources to better our lives.

This isn’t about opposing technology, it’s about how AI capitalist development prioritizes profit above all else, above the planet, and above people’s needs.

I urge other city council members to follow council member Fife’s lead, and support the urgency moratorium on AI data centers in Oakland. But, this is only the first step. We want a full ban on all AI data centers in Oakland.

The Black Panther Party fought for people’s community control of modern technology, and that’s what we’re fighting for today with this people’s movement.

As an Oakland resident of over 5 years, I strongly oppose the construction and creation of any data centers in our city.

The environmental impacts alone are enough to enact a complete and final moratorium on the building of data centers. Polluting the air and our community, while also using necessary resources like water for a data center the community doesn’t want is unacceptable.

Please listen to the constituents of your community. I oppose any data centers in the city of Oakland.

As an Oakland resident, I strongly opposed the construction of a data center in downtown Oakland, or anywhere in Oakland.

The data from across the country shows these data centers, of any size, create significant health issues. Downtown is home to many residents, businesses, and schools. Our Oakland children do not deserve to be subjected to the health consequences of a data center, even a "small" one.

In addition, this will NOT increase jobs. Data centers do not bring meaningful, well-paid career opportunities to the communities they are built in, and the AI industry is design to remove and replace laborers.

We already live in an area with very high cost of living. Adding additional costs to our utilities, electric and water, to support a data center, not built for us or chosen by us, is not an added financial stressor and burden that Oakland residents deserve.

I strongly oppose a data center in Oakland.

I am a 7 year resident of Adams Point. I do not want a data center in Oakland, beyond just the one being proposed near 19th st Bart. I don’t want any data centers in Oakland at all. I don’t trust the interests of those investing in these data centers — I do not believe these projects have the best interests of Oaklanders at heart and will increase our cost of living, among other adverse impacts.

Incremental tax revenue generated from this data center is not worth the hardship caused to Oaklanders. Reconsider your decision. Thank you.
