Hi. My name is Juancarlos Hernandez. I'm an attorney with Arns Davis Law in San Francisco. I represent Jose Gloria Reyes, a construction worker whose vehicle was damaged by City of Oakland's Fire Department. My office submitted public entity claim with the City Attorney on February 20, 2026. Along with the public entity claim I attached a police report finding the OFD at fault, invoices of repairs, photographs of the damage, bills reflecting monthly costs my client had to incur while not having access to his vehicle. Despite this we have yet to receive a response from the City Attorney. My client is not claiming any personal injury. Damages are not speculative. The City of Oakland is responsible for the loss of value Mr. Reyes has suffered as a result of his vehicle being damaged, as well as the costs associated with the two months he was left without his vehicle. Our goal is to prevent unnecessary litigation and expense for both parties. Tax money from Oakland residents should not be be wasted on pointless litigation where liability is clear. Oakland is city who strives for justice and fairness for all. Damaging the property of a member of the community and then ignoring them is not reflective of those values. Absent response from the City Attorney's office in the next month I have a complaint ready to be filed in Superior Court.
