I'm urging the City Council to adopt this measure. Our family has been going to Feather River for over 5 years and it's truly a treasure of Oakland that the whole community benefits from. Some of our best memories as a family have been made up there, alongside Oakland neighbors we never would have met otherwise.

This camp is so valuable for our children. It has become an important part of our summers and our family would be extremely sad to have this year canceled. Please help keep this amazing resource to Oakland youth available by approving this funding measure.

As noted, the camp has served as a vital community space for Oakland residents for over a century, and its continued operation depends on timely support. Preserving this space is not just about maintenance, it is about sustaining a longstanding resource that has brought together generations of Oaklanders. I encourage the council to act swiftly to ensure its future.

Please support Oakland's Feather River Camp by supporting this necessary infrastructure upgrade. OFRC is a jewel. My family have spent several summers there. All people should be able to access nature like this.

Please support Oakland's Feather River Camp funding request. This is by far one of Oakland's best assets. I've been to the camp 6 times over the past several years and immediately appreciated the rustic and comfortable feel of the place and the facilities. And I can see that more support is needed to keep this 100 year old treasure in good working order. This request will support the camp's ability to serve Oakland's families and children, as well as those of us who have attended art camp for adults over the years. As a facilities manager I know how much it takes to keep a place in good working order, and the staff at OFRC does a stellar job of using what resources it has. Please support this request and continue your support of the camp to provide Oaklanders with an incredible outdoor experience they don't get anywhere else. Thank you.

Equal Access to Nature for Oakland Families! Oakland Feather River Camp promotes and celebrates connections between nature, family and community by creating unique opportunities to advance environmental appreciation, cultural diversity, and youth empowerment.

Oakland Feather River Camp is the longest-running youth and family recreation program in Oakland, and in its first century has transformed the lives of over 200,000 campers of all ages. OFRC is a 37-acre camp facility in Plumas National Forest that has provided outdoor educational and recreational opportunities for generations of campers since its founding by the City of Oakland in 1924 as part of a national movement to increase access to nature.

It is of the utmost importance to keep the legacy of Oakland Feather River Camp thriving to continue to support the well-being of Oaklanders. It is the city of Oakland's responsibility to ensure equal access to nature for their families.

I urge the council to approve this emergency funding. Without this funding, OFRC will be unable to operate (I needn't explain why drinking water and a septic system is vital to a camp) and provide its vital mission of promoting and celebrating connections between nature, family and community by creating unique opportunities to advance environmental appreciation, cultural diversity, and youth empowerment for all Oaklanders. I attend OFRC and have made connections there to my fellow Oaklanders, and saw its ability to expose Oaklanders to the majesty of the great outdoors, who may not have otherwise had the opportunity. Please approve this funding!

    Dear Oakland City Council Members,

My name is Mark Olson and I am a proud Oakland resident and former Executive Director of Camps in Common, the nonprofit Operator of Oakland Feather River Camp (OFRC). I served in that role for eight years from January 2017 to Spring of last year.

I urge you to support Oakland Feather River Camp (OFRC) - one of the City's longest-running recreation programs - as it faces urgent infrastructure issues. Please vote to adopt this resolution authorizing the City of Oakland to execute a construction contract for critical capital repairs and replacements of this historic 100+ year old facility.

As the Agenda Memo from OPRYD states, these repairs are the responsibility of the City per the agreement between the City and Camps in Common, the nonprofit operator of OFRC. Without these repairs, there are real consequences - for the City, for Oakland's youth and families, and for the short and long-term viability of Camps in Common and Oakland Feather River Camp. Lastly, Summer is nearly upon us - and this project needs to get started as soon as possible.

Oakland Feather River Camp is an important community program and historic facility that has served hundreds of thousands of Oaklanders over the past 100+ years. Please support Oaklander's access to the outside and fulfill the City's responsibility to address these capital issues by adopting this resolution.

Please approve. I have been the Facilities Manager for seven seasons here at OFRC. It is my privilege to ensure that our facility infrastructure is safe for all campers and staff and that this beautiful land is protected. The conditions of both the septic and water filtration systems are critical and must be replaced immediately. In my seven seasons I have had the good fortune of seeing Oakland families reunite, laugh, and create memories. The camping experience for Oaklanders is truly life changing, and there is no price tag for that. Parents know that OFRC they can allow their children to play freely because they know they are safe. An essential part of that safety is infrastructure that is efficient and reliable. Please approve.

Please approve this funding. In this crazy time, Oakland Feather River Camp is needed more than ever. Camp is where Oakland families slow down, where our kids run free, and where neighbors who'd never otherwise meet end up sharing meals and singing around a fire together. It's one of the few places left where our community can come together and enjoy the outdoors, and we can't lose that. I urge the Council to support the resolution.

I write to urge you to approve this funding measure for Oakland Feather River Camp. For more than 100 years, OFRC has been a critical resource giving all Oakland residents residents the opportunity to escape the city, spend time in nature and connect and build community with other Oaklanders. OFRC has been working for several months with licensed engineers, Plumas County, the US Forest Service, and the City of Oakland to develop a fully compliant solution: two new septic tanks, an expanded leach field, and a modern water filtration system. Let's get this project across the goal line by approving the funding. Preserve this gem for the city of Oakland!

Dear City Council Members and Oakland Representatives,

I am writing to you as a solo parent raising two daughters with medical needs to express my unwavering support for the funding of critical septic and water filtration renovations at Oakland Feather River Camp (OFRC).

OFRC is not merely a summer camp for my family; it is the center of our year and a vital part of our support system. It is a place where we come to heal, reconnect, and feel the genuine warmth of a community that lifts us up when we need it most. The camp provides a rare sanctuary where we build lasting friendships, make art, and create memories that are essential to my children's well-being given their health challenges.

OFRC is a community treasure with a soul. It provides equity of access to the outdoors, ensuring that my children can thrive in a supportive environment regardless of our financial or medical circumstances.

I urge you to vote "YES" on Agenda Item S6.25 during tomorrow’s meeting. Please allocate these necessary funds to ensure this Oakland gem continues to be a place of connection, stability, and joy for families like mine.

Thank you for your time and for protecting the future of this essential community institution.

    Sincerely,

    Jitka, Rosie, and Sophia
    Big fans of OFRC

I am writing to urge the City Council to authorize the $523,938.09 for essential septic and water treatment repairs at Oakland Feather River Camp. For over 100 years, this camp has served as a vital bridge to the outdoors for our diverse Oakland and East Bay communities, offering many families a rare opportunity to disconnect from the stresses of urban life and reconnect with nature. With 25% of campers relying on camperships to attend, OFRC is not just a recreational site but an essential resource for equitable access to the wilderness. Investing in this infrastructure is a direct investment in the health, well-being, and heritage of our city’s families.
