    1) A recent survey by the Oakland Chamber of Commerce showed that - by a large margin - Oakland citizens show support for surveillance technology, both public and private.

    2) Cameras were recently used to track the alleged killer of Coach John Beam.

    3) Flock cameras can make streets safer by helping OPD solve and prevent crimes through features like automated license plate recognition (ALPR) and vehicle fingerprinting. OPD can use this technology to track crime-linked vehicles, receive real-time alerts, and gather evidence that can help solve robberies, and hit-and-run incidents, etc. Additionally, Flock cameras are used for other safety purposes, such as locating missing persons with vehicles and analyzing traffic patterns to improve road design.

    4) With only 28-25 OPD officers per shift, Oakland NEEDS surveillance technology to augment OPD,

Some individuals have tried to discredit responsible surveillance systems - spreading misinformation about FLOCK by citing rare examples of occasional failure - which happen in EVERY system - and generalizing that failure to the entire system. These systems save lives; we can continue to make them safer and protect privacy while at the same time using these systems for the benefit of Oakland's citizens
