I strongly support this resolution. My family lives in the cul-de-sac and it would be extremely beneficial if there was no parking allowed after 10pm. We have an infant and having a quieter environment for her would be so helpful. Often, if people are parked that late at night, they are playing loud music that disrupts our sleep.

I support this proposal. I live on Bellevue and Perkins, across the street from Lake Merritt. There are substantial noise problems, at night, on all sides of the Lake, and the Lake conducts noise if there is a party, or music blasting from vehicles around the Lake. As I understand it, by preventing or making unlawful parking on Lakeshore after 10pm, this ordinance will very likely eliminate or reduce the possibility of parties, or cars parked blasting music at night.
Because I am frequently disturbed by loud noised arraign the Lake late at night or in the early morning, I support this resoluiton.

I strongly support the expansion of the no-parking hours at the Lakeshore Cul-de-Sac. The park officially closes at dusk, yet late-night gatherings continue well past that time, often involving loud amplified music, alcohol, and disorderly behavior. These late-night gatherings have, unfortunately, also led to violent incidents, including several shootings in recent months.

OPD has stated that extending the no-parking hours and adding clear signage will give them the authority to disperse crowds more effectively—something they currently cannot do without those tools.

This change is critical to protecting both public safety and community health. Excessive amplified noise is not just a nuisance; it’s recognized as the second most harmful environmental pollutant after air pollution, with serious impacts on the nervous and cardiovascular systems.

Lake Merritt should be a safe and peaceful place for all Oaklanders. Please vote yes on expanding the no-parking hours to help prevent violence, reduce health risks, and restore calm to our community.
