The NSA needs to be concluded. I urge you work to close the NSA.
    We can’t afford it
The NSA has gone on too long and is costing us too much money. We spend over a million dollars a year, in addition to ten million for civilian oversight, and millions in officer overtime due to administrative burden.
Prolonged federal oversight continues to divert millions of dollars each year away from urgent
community needs such as housing, youth programs, violence prevention, and neighborhood
safety. After more than two decades, the costs of continued monitoring now outweigh the
    benefits.

Compliance criteria is vague and continuously changes
The monitor continues to change his criteria for compliance and has vague criteria for compliance. It is unfair to have one person be in charge of compliance.
I want local control of our police department and public safety
I want Oakland to have control of our police department, and not a federal monitor and judge who don’t even live here. We already have civilian oversight in place.

I want both accountability and safety — and I believe Oakland must achieve these goals
through its own institutions, chosen and shaped by its residents. Federal oversight has fulfilled
its purpose and run its course.
I support the community petition to end the NSA
The judge should listen to Oaklanders and not just a federal monitor who hasn’t set foot in Oakland for over 10 years. I support the petition to end the NSA.
