5.21 25-0863 Subject: Resolution In Support Of Senate Bill 332
From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution In Support Of Senate Bill 332 (Wahab), Which Would, Among Other Provisions, Commission A Feasibility Study That Compares Various Not-For-Profit Utility Models To Transition The Large Gas And Electric Investor-Owned Utilities To A Successor Entity, Prioritizing Public Benefits In Energy Generation, Distribution, And Transmission
My name is Luz Hernandez and I am an Oakland resident in District 3. The worsening wildfires in our state are not normal, and the urgency of this situation requires a not-for-profit utility model that will put people over profits. Utilities are essential services and we need them to be more equitable, more affordable, and more reliable. Data shows that transitioning to a public utility model will create more accountability and transparency for California residents.
