As a longtime Oakland resident and patron of the Laurel I have seen first hand the benefits to the MacArthur corridor of the Laurel BID including added security, new murals and all the wonderful free community events they hold throughout the year including the Laurel Street Fair, Lunar New Year parade and Halloween trick or treating. It is a trying time for our merchants and they can use all the support we can give. I ask for your support of the renewal.

The Laurel District Association BID has been vital to growing the economic activity and property valuation in the district over the past 20 years, since formation in 2005. The vacancy rate of available commercial spaces has never been lower, and the quality of service business, retail options, and dining and grocery options has steady improved and remains the destination goods and service commercial center for East Oakland residential neighborhoods. The renewal and expansion is strongly supported among owners to preserve and enhance the safety in the area for residents, workers, and customers. The culture of Oakland is uplifted in The Laurel with a clean and active streetscape supporting economic activity that has experienced steady sales tax growth and leasing interest since the pandemic. The LDA annual reports submitted to the City shows measurable results from effective and efficient use of assessment funds collected, with expanded capacity from nonprofit fundraising and grant awards. The Laurel BID is a trusted and reliable community and city partner. Please support the continued success for the next 20 years.
