Dear Members of the Oakland City Council,

On behalf of the Oriental Food Association, which represents 30+ Bay Area importers, distributors, and businesses, we respectfully urge the Council to pause approval of the current slate of nominees for the Port of Oakland Board of Commissioners, and encourage Mayor Lee to consider revising it to include a candidate with deep operational and industry experience— Mr. Sung Wook Lee.

Mr. Lee, President of the Northern California Customs Brokers and Forwarders Association, brings decades of experience in int'l trade, port operations, and cross-sector collaboration. His engagement with labor, environmental, and business stakeholders positions him to make an immediate and constructive contribution to the Board.

We recognize the value of community and environmental leadership in shaping the future of the Port. At the same time, we believe it is essential to balance these perspectives with technical and operational expertise—particularly as the Port navigates global supply chain shifts and major infrastructure investments.

For these reasons, we urge the Council to:
    1) Vote against the current slate in its current form, and
    2) Recommend a revised slate that includes Mr. Lee to ensure the Board is equipped with the full range of experience required

Thank you for your thoughtful consideration and continued leadership in shaping the future of Oakland’s economic and trade gateway.

    Sincerely,
    Matthew Chin
    President, Oriental Food Association
