I would like to encourage the Oakland City Council to consider funding community based organizations providing peer-based mental health services to the youth and adults of Oakland. I work for Peers Envisioning & Engaging in Recovery Services (PEERS), and we have served the city of Oakland and Alameda County for over 20 years. The passage of Prop 1/Behavioral Health Services Act puts our funding at serious risk. For the enrichment and well-being of all Oakland residents, I urge the City Council to carve out funding for these CBOs who meet the most vulnerable individuals where they're at and provide life-saving programming. We help people stay well and live the lives they want to lead. We can partner with housing agencies, clinical providers, and FQHCs to further our work, but the funding has to come from somewhere. We aim to continue serving Oakland for many years to come and would appreciate the City Council's support!
