5.8 24-0572 Subject: Implementation Of Youth Voting

Recommendation: Adopt The Following Pieces Of Legislation:
1) An Ordinance Adding Section 3.08.035 To The Oakland Municipal Code To Authorize Persons Aged 16 And 17, Who Are Otherwise Eligible To Vote Under State Law, To Vote For The Office Of School Board Director, And;
I think that measure qq is important and I support it because it gives students the ability to speak up for what they want and be heard. Students should be able to take part in school board decisions or at least have an opinion to be heard because they are the ones being mainly affected so it makes sense they have a say. Students should be able to choose a representative that listens and agrees with them.
I support the right for youth to vote since they are the ones impacted by the decisions made by the school board so, they should have a right to vote for a person who will represent them and who will think about how their decisions could affect students.
