From: Councilmember Fife
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Affirming Oakland's Love Life Commitment And Support For The Congressional And Worldwide Calls For An Immediate Ceasefire In Gaza
As a long time city of Oakland resident, I, with the support of Oakland residents - call for an immediate ceasefire of Israel's war on Hamas and the innocent civilians of Gaza.
With Oakland's long history of battling oppression and defending the seemingly undefendable, we shame our ancestors if we as a city do not aggressively demand and act to bring an immediate ceasefire of Israel's blatant genocide indiscriminately targeting innocent lives under the cloak of combatting "terrorism" - a propagandist agenda, stalling action and perpetuating the exponential eradication of an entire population.
I am an Oakland resident, a Jew and a descendent of Holocaust survivors. Thank you for drafting this resolution. I urge you to call for a ceasefire in Gaza. I hope we come together to do whatever we can to help stop more death and devastation. Thank you.
Israeli forces killing over 10,000 civilians in their pursuit of Hamas is unacceptable. Oakland has a proud history of social justice and advocacy — let us continue that legacy by calling for a ceasefire.
Commit to divesting city funds to supporting the settler colony Israel and unequivocally stand behind the Palestinians as we watch our federal government be complicit in their genocide
I am a constituent of Oakland district 4, and I support a resolution to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The people of Oakland have historically stood on the side of justice and liberation worldwide, and today we have a chance to take a principled stance as a city and as a community. I thank Councilmember Fife for recommending this resolution and hope that the rest of City Council will see the courage and moral obligation of adopting it.
There is truly no reason to not call for a ceasefire to put an immediate end to the mass destruction and murder caused by the state of Israel. The people have Oakland have historically been at the forefront of liberation movements and to support an immediate ceasefire that would pave the way for liberated Palestine.
Please vote to have Oakland stand for saving thousands more innocent lives in Gaza. Even though they are far away, our support from home can re-energize our commitments to justice here, while serving as a symbol of hope for others. 5,000 children killed makes the impacts of October 7th worse, not better, and pauses alone will only delay more deaths. As residents of Oakland, we must say, ‘Stop’: a ceasefire is the only humane solution.
I am an Oakland resident urging Oakland city council to adopt a resolution supporting a ceasefire in Palestine to put an end to the murder of already more than 13,000 Palestinians and the horrific war crimes perpetrated by the occupation. Ceasefire now, free Palestine.
I am a proud resident of Oakland and I strongly support the resolution in support of an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. I know you will do what is right and pass this resolution.
As an Oakland resident, I support a resolution calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. The mass killing of innocent civilians and destruction of civilian areas are war crimes and must be opposed. A permanent ceasefire and a political solution with full and equal rights for Palestinians is the only way to ensure security for everyone in the region. As a community, we stand for justice, human rights, and the sanctity of life - ceasefire now.
We have a moral obligation to do what little we can to end the violence. I support all efforts calling for a ceasefire and applaud the courage in putting forth a resolution. Bravo.
Support for this resolution is not a matter of politics it is a manner of humanity. I commend city council for standing on the right side of history and call on everyone reading this who is not standing against a genocide to check in with their hearts. We are facing a dark time in humanity when supporting a genocide is a matter of debate.. and it is with that that I support Oakland city council for taking a stance that is against genocide and a stance with humanity.
Thank you for standing on the right side of history. Everyone, including the opponents of this resolution, knows that this is not an endorsement of Hamas or their actions on October 7. It's a call to use the power we have to stop the bloodshed and find a political solution to endless civilian deaths. We can't bomb our way to peace and if Israel chooses to ignore intl law and basic morality then it shouldn't do it with our weapons and tax dollars.
Thank you for drafting the resolution. Ceasefire is needed immediately

(And moreover, a withdrawal/significant limitation of US financial and military support - our hard-earned tax dollars - from Israel)
