Lantong Zhai about 1 year ago

My name is Lantong Zhai.  I was robbed the day before thanksgiving at a gas station in East Oakland. Someone reached inside my car and snatched my purse from the driver side. Shortly after another car stopped and a guy got out and tried to pop my trunk open.  They did not care at all that my son and I were standing right there.   It was scary and traumatizing. I called 911 and reported the crime online.  On Thanksgiving day morning, two Oakland PD Officer Chang and Officer Wesley called and met with me and were actually able to track my phone down.  They also went back searched the area where the phone was dropped, and reviewed all the relevant video surveillance tapes at the gas station.  Another lady officer was called to help with the tape.  But unfortunately I did not get her name.  They were able to identify that the two cars involved were one Lexus, one Honda. The license plates were not legible, their face carefully covered, and credit card purchases show liquor and cigarette. I am very grateful that Officer Chang and Officer Wesley spent their Thanksgiving day morning helping me. I was told by gas station worker that I was very lucky to get help because of extreme staff and funding shortage. Some county sheriff even use their own time to patrol the area. I want to express my deep gratitude to Oakland PD and voice my concern.   While I can just go home and leave this behind,  I hope that the residents of Oakland don't have to live with this every day. Best wishes.
