Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Renewing The City Council's Declaration Of A Local Public Health Emergency With Respect To Safe, Affordable Access To Medical Cannabis In The City Of Oakland
Cannabis is a medicine that is especially helpful for people whose bodies cannot thrive with solely western medicinal treatments. A lot of people with chronic illness and trauma, myself included, receive significant benefits from medicinal cannabis, and it’s beyond unjust that it’s not accessible for many of the people who need it most. It’s also an atrocity that justice has not been achieved for the countless (especially Black & Indigenous) people incarcerated for use of this medicinal plant. As well as that the cannabis industry is largely white. This declaration would be a step towards cannabis justice.
