I support CM Bass’s plan for the Lake. We’ve made great progress maintaining order around the Lake in the last year and I’d like to see it continue.

This is a wonderful idea to support the jewel of Oakland Lake Merritt. 'I support CP Bas' budget allocations for Lake Merritt to make the park a safe and healthy place for the community and park visitors.'

I am in SUPPORT of the budget amendments proposed by the Oakland Council Budget Team (D2, D3, D5 and At-Large Council members). Thank you for your proposal to restore funding for violence prevention, public safety, community and economic development. As a District 3 resident and worker in Oakland's food and beverage industry, I support city council in following through with all 8 amendments for Good Jobs & Vibrant Economy, as well as adding community ambassadors in our business corridors. I also support the city in considering 5-10% of revenue generated from the Progressive Business Tax be earmarked and reinvested in programming and funding for BIPOC businesses.
As a worker with experience in small Oakland food and beverage businesses, I emphasize that these and other locally-owned BIPOC businesses provide support that is crucial to community wellness, particularly in the wake of the pandemic. To D1, D4, D5, and D6 council members, PLEASE show small businesses you care by supporting the Oakland Council Budget Team’s proposed amendments. Thank you for listening.

I am in SUPPORT of the budget amendments proposed by the Oakland Council Budget Team (D2, D3, D5 and At-Large Council members). Thank you for your proposal to restore funding for violence prevention, public safety, community and economic development. As a resident of D1 and founder and worker-owner of Uptima Entrepreneur Cooperative in D3, I support the city council in following through with all 8 amendments for Good Jobs & Vibrant Economy, as well as adding community ambassadors in our business corridors. I also support the city in considering 5-10% of revenue generated from the Progressive Business Tax be earmarked and reinvested in programming and funding for BIPOC businesses. We know local economic development spurs and creates public safety in our communities, and in order for BIPOC businesses to continue to create the community impact we have in Oakland, we need the support of the city in prioritizing funding for economic development for entrepreneurs of color. To D1, D4, D5, and D6 council members, PLEASE show small businesses you care by supporting the Oakland Council Budget Team’s proposed amendments. Thank you for listening.

I support CP Bas' proposed amendment to the budget specifically for weekend support of Lake Merritt Vendor's Market at El Embarcadero, and investing in Public Safety, Park Stewards, and Municipal Code officers on weekends and holidays to keep the Pergola / Lakeshore / Grand Ave area safe, inviting and well organized for families and community members. Organized parking and City Engagement in this neighborhood has made a positive impact on the park recently, and we should invest the new Parking revenues in helping the area thrive and support safe public access.

As one of so many residents adversely affected by a deteriorating situation at our city's jewel, Lake Merritt, I support CP Bas's budget allocations to improving park safety and ensuring a healthy environment for the community and visitors alike.

I support CP Bas' budget and specifically the allocations to support Lake Merritt, the Jewel of Oakland, to be a safe and healthy place for visitors, neighbors, and the environment. Lake Merritt is a destination for visitors from all over Oakland and Northern California. It needs to be a safe place for people of all ages to come and enjoy the park and its wildlife. This budget from CP Bas supports that, and I encourage the City Council to support these measures.

Contributing whatever we can (money, time, a platform, networking opportunities) to each of our projects and businesses is what continues the possibility of us thriving together. I’ve never felt taken care of in this way from large corporations. My name is Saly Lee, ED at the Oakland Asian Cultural Center in D2. I support Council President's budget proposal with an increased Cultural Affairs budget and restoring the $40K per year contract amount to Oakland Asian Cultural Center. I appreciate the Council's efforts to create a healthy and vibrant community by supporting the arts & culture of Oakland.
OACC is the only pan-Asian cultural center in the East Bay. Since 1996, OACC has promoted Asian and Pacific Islander American (“APIA”) culture, arts, communities, and social issues and has provided a safe space for the community, many of whom are underserved, to come together and participate in free educational programs and events. We also support Oakland’s thriving creative community by paying market-rate fees for program participation and providing free and subsidized rehearsal and performance spaces to both emerging and established artists. I am extremely proud to be part of this organization and the impact we make in Oakland Chinatown and the broader community.
The pandemic had a devastating effect on our community. We are now coming out of the pandemic with more community engagement activities, hosting multiple events per month and supporting the vibrant Chinatown business community, and we hope to continue championing the underserved communities in Oakland. We rely on the full amount of the subsidy grant from the City to support all these efforts.
Thank you for supporting OACC and the creative community of Oakland.

Austerity budgeting has hurt small businesses in Oakland before, and we know what we get: more chain stores which extract money from our community, alienate our neighbors from one another, and prevent any accountability when they abuse their workers — our local friends and family. Supporting small businesses isn't just good community stewardship in a budget deficit; it's good economics, too. Small businesses and worker cooperatives are an easy choice to support in this budget and should be prioritized with the funding listed in this amendment — and a whole lot more.
