My name is Dr. Frankie Free Ramos. I work at CURYJ and a member of Oakland Progressive Alliance. I urge our elected officials to take emergency action now to support the over 200 Wood St residents who are currently being displaced by Caltrans and the City without anywhere to go. City-run RV sites are full. Non-congregant shelter options are full. This is an emergency! It is not feasible to leave these Oakland residents with nowhere to go. They need land now. It is urgent that you support Councilmember Fife's proposal to open up land at the North Gateway parcel near Wood St. That should be made available to vehicle dwellers and other unhoused residents immediately. Wood St residents have a plan and the city should work collaboratively with them to implement immediate solutions. We need to do better and stop the cycle of harm and displacement!

Actions must follow words! We have long ago declared that there is an emergency re: people being unhoused. Yet it gets worse and worse. We must implement solutions. No solution is perfect. We cannot let the perfect get in the way of taking steps forward. The people closest to the problem so often have solutions that those with the power to implement solutions choose not to take up. Please make the choice to support Wood Street residents by voting yes!
