Additional information is needed for public consideration of this. How will funds be administered? Are funds intended for nonprofit developers? If so, how will they be identified? We need more details to determine if this is a good use of scarce housing funds.
As you all know, we have a housing crisis here in Oakland. During the past years, we have seen the creation of permanent shanty towns because people simply cannot afford the housing that the private market provides. This is due to the financialization of the housing industry, and until that is dismantled, the private market will never provide housing for anyone who is not wealthy. If we do not want access to four walls and a roof to be the provenance of only the super rich, we desperately need social housing and fast. Please vote yes on this resolution so we can start the long and arduous process of getting social housing for Oaklanders who need housing most.
