2.9 22-0293 Subject: May 2022 Mental Health Awareness Month
From: Councilmember Taylor
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Proclaiming May 2022 As Mental Health Awareness Month In The City Of Oakland, Recognizing The Incredible Work Of Oakland's Mental Health Professionals And Community Mental Health Service Providers And Establishing Mental Health As A Priority In The City Of Oakland
This is more performative legislation. Awareness of mental and emotional health and recognition of service providers is important, but meaningless if it isn't backed up with funding, with services, with improved supports. Particularly coming from CM Taylor, the co-chair of the reimagining public safety task force who undermined the process and who has aligned himself with policing and supporting ongoing increased police funding at the expense of community mental/emotional health.
