Hi my name is Cynthia Morfin, I am a D3 resident and am here with the Oakland United Coalition.
The community's vision for Howard Terminal includes making sure there are good jobs for residents, accessible affordable housing, and environmental protections for Oakland. That's why we alongside many of our community allies got them added to the community recommendations from the steering committee and to the Term Sheet adopted by Council. Community members have been in city meetings for years. We expect to be a part of the final stages of negotiations to ensure the A's commitment to these community demands. The City’s CBA steering committee recommendations and the City Council’s approved 2021 term sheet established 2016’s Centerpoint job policies as the baseline, which includes critical measures such as local hire, ban the box, a fair chance policy, disadvantaged hire, living wages, limit on temporary workers, and community oversight. This policy is critical in order to make good jobs for local residents a priority.
We support this resolution as it makes it clear that community benefits are a priority for the project and must be addressed before the deal is done. As for the EIR, this Final EIR does not fully address the impacts this project will have on West Oakland, Chinatown, and future residents of Howard Terminal. The City Council must include a clear plan to clean up this toxic site and to reduce air pollution in the surrounding area.

I am a property owner, business owner, and resident in the Jack London DISTRICT. I often visit Jack London SQUARE, which is part of the Jack London DISTRICT. The Port of Oakland owns nearly every parcel in Jack London SQUARE. Around 1,400 people own parcels in the Jack London DISTRICT and at least 4,000 people are residents in the Jack London DISTRICT.
If you decide to adopt this resolution, please replace “Square” with “District” in two places on page 2 and one place on page 4. “Square” is used correctly on page 1.
For future reference, please note that the Jack London DISTRICT extends from the freeway to the Estuary and includes Jack London SQUARE. Jack London SQUARE extends from the railroad tracks to the Estuary and is owned and managed by the Port of Oakland and by the CIM Group. DISTRICT is an inclusive term like Chinatown or Old Oakland; SQUARE is much more limited like City Center.

Time to open up the freedoms of the people (and the economy), and lift vaccine mandates on buildings and gatherings.

Need to have a highly scrutinized CBA. They have presented an unfinished and non-binding. Do not approve going further with this until acceptable.
