My name is Domenichi Morris. I’m a youth educator and organizer residing in district 3. While working with various youth for over 2 decades I have witnessed the impact that the war on drugs has had on children and families that were already struggling in marginalized communities.I support the Emerald New Deal because it is a path towards a more equitable Oakland by providing opportunities to support the individuals, families, and communities that have suffered the most under the War on Drugs.
As an Oakland resident I am asking you the Public Safety Committee to support this path towards equity, to stand with Oakland communities and to vote to endorse the Emerald New Deal by recommending it to city council to put it on the ballot. Thank you

My name is Ana Victoria Fortes and I live in Sheffield Village. I fully support the Emerald New Deal (END) as it offers a more meaningful approach to public safety. I'm writing to strongly encourage the Public Safety Committee to strongly support the END and aim to get this initiative on the November ballot. We need creative alternatives to funding important services for our community, especially for those who were affected by the War on Drugs, and the END is exactly that. Please hear us out!

I live in the Lakeshore neighborhood and I am asking the Public Safety Committee Councilmembers to support the Emerald New Deal as a matter of investing in public safety! The reimagining public safety task force report is full of great recommendations for mental health, restorative justice, and re-entry supports but has no clear way to fund them. Emerald New Deal would use the existing Cannabis tax money to invest in the communities most harmed by the War on Drugs through re-entry support, mental health, affordable housing, community and economic development, and economic self-sufficiency services, which are all critical services for creating a safe Oakland for all! As a resident of Oakland, I am asking Councilmembers Fife, Gallo, Kaplan, and Reid please help this initiative get to the November ballot!
