I am a rich, white woman who has lived in Oakland for 20 years and I can't recall a single time that I have ever experienced the police being helpful to me or my neighbors. A couple of months ago I came home at about 8pm to find 10 police cars and an ambulance on my block and dozens of police raiding a neighbor's house. The extended family that lives there was all in the cold in the middle of the street, elders, toddlers, parents, cold and scared. They have lived in their home as long as I've lived in mine and there has never been any problem. Why was this raid conducted at night? Why was it conducted at all? It's terrifying that an ambulance was standing by - apparently a precaution in case somebody got shot. Children live in that house! What were the police thinking in conducting a raid in this way?

I write in support of Item 59 on the proposed recommendations: moving traffic enforcement to OakDOT. Pretextual stops are a tool of harassment and oppression that do not make our streets safer.
