Recommendation: Receive An Informational Report From City Auditor Regarding Homeless Services Performance Audit
Please take immediate action and fund very affordable housing for Oaklanders. As this report shows, Oakland’s policies and investments have been ineffective. Council must go beyond this report’s findings and take immediate and decisive action to curb the affordable housing crisis in Oakland. This burden is carried disproportionately by Black Oaklanders, which is unacceptable and a reflection on ongoing racist housing policies. Please use every parcel of vacant City land and acquire hotels and vacancy buildings to do something effective to house unsheltered people and create affordable housing. This action requires significant resources and creative and diverse solutions from modular housing to new dignified shelters to clean and safe RV parking sites in addition to collaborating with Alameda County to increase funding for mental health and substance abuse.
