As a District 1 resident I support the use of public funds to implement MACRO to address mental health issues. I demand that this program be held accountable to the community. I have been horrified that the use of OPD in mental health crises results in death or violence. We need to have programs that deal with and reduce the trauma that often triggers mental health crises. These monies are public funds and must be used for the public good. When we talk about defunding the police we REALLY mean INVEST in our communities in ways that created genuine safety, care and that also creates anti-racist systems and policies to address gaping inequities.
