2.3 21-0107 Subject: Declaration Of A Local Emergency On Homelessness
From: Council President Kaplan
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Renewing And Continuing The City Council's Declaration Of A Local Emergency Due To The Existence Of The City's Homelessness Crisis
When do we move from "Declarations" to "Action"? I am a single, senior woman living 10ft from the currently, encroaching homeless encampments at 24th Street and MLK. I've witness shootings within 6ft of me, I've been assaulted and my property is vandalized. I live in fear. I live surrounded by garbage, rats, human feces and all that comes with the degradation of the MLK/24th street, overcrowded homeless camp. I AM NOT HOMELESS, I pay rent to live here. We were told A YEAR AGO that the city was going to address this particular community. Where is the "Action"? What can we do? Who can we get to help us?
