I am writing to express support fully funding a community ambassador program. This action has been proposed by residents as the best means to stay safe. I am against increasing police activity, this is not what the community has asked for, and will not increase safety. Please do not use these violent attacks to justify increasing the police budget (or as a reason to not defund the police). Please listen to and support community members for means to stop the anti-Asian violence.

I am a white resident of Oakland living immediately north of Chinatown. I depend on Chinatown's businesses for much of my food, and I walk through Chinatown nearly daily to get a coffee and some exercise. Yesterday, I joined a list of community volunteers to help my neighbors and the staff of the shops I've been patronizing for a decade. I strongly support funding a community ambassador program to keep the elders of the Chinatown community safe from attacks. Please do not increase police or private security in Chinatown - OPD has made no effort to hire Chinese-speaking police or reach out to the Chinese community.

I am an Asian American resident of Chinatown and support funding a community ambassador program. This will help our community feel safe and supported and also provide full time jobs to community members. I am against an increase in police & private security companies--these do not make me feel safe or keep my community safe. Let's get a fully funded community ambassador program!

Please fund the Chinatown Ambassador program and take immediate action to respond to recent attacks on Chinatown community. Also, increased policing is not the answer - we need to keep us safe. I comment as a supporter of APTP and born and raised Oakland Asian American.
