I understand this is an informational report and I am suggesting everything should be put on the table including third party/external program providers funding. All City staffing should be a priority.

Please defund OPD and utilize those resources to actually benefit the community you've been chosen to represent. As more businesses close due to Covid, our city is failing it's struggling population and it's incredibly disheartening to see these outrageous dollar amounts still being spent on the police as opposed to the houseless community. Or put towards schools. Or mental health care services. Please continue to cut the OPD budget and reinvest in the community.

OPD overspent its budget by $32mil, $19mil in unauthorized OT. Meanwhile, services people actually need and our fire stations get cut in the middle of a pandemic (and in the middle of fire season!). OPD overspends by millions of dollars every year, protests or not, and this needs to stop. We need to start by defunding OPD by at least 50% and reinvesting in our communities with mental health care services, schools, housing, non-police crisis support, etc. The investment in OPD has not and will not keep citizens safe and has led to the massive budget deficit Oakland has today. We need to reinvest in our communities for a better future and we need to do it now.

Defund OPD and refund our neighborhoods. The city needs to redirect the millions of dollars wasted on OPD to social programs related to housing, schools, and mental health care--all of which would actually benefit our community. We demand that you invest in the people of Oakland.

Oakland has limited funds. Don't continue to defund communities in favor of bloated police budgets. The police budget has continued to grow and consume more and more community funds for several years and it clearly hasn't solved the problem because it's not addressing the real issues. We should be defunding the OPD to reinvest that money into our communities where we can make significant positive changes for the residents of Oakland. Look to the community for pathways. Let them lead and be sure to follow.

refund our city and defund opd.
We need to invest in the People of Oakland to get us through this crisis. It is time for the city to invest in support services and social programs with the same aggressiveness it has invested in the failed mechanism of violent policing.
