Can the Inn at Temescal be renovated to create more than 21 units?
Oakland's need for safe shelters for individuals and families far exceeds the number of units these new locations add.
What is the plan to fill the gap?
Streetside or sidewalk encampments are not safe shelters for folks living there or for the neighborhoods where they are located, as they pose health and safety hazards and attract drugs, myriad other crimes and violence. Allowing these encampments to exist, persist, and grow in their current locations is unacceptable. They predate COVID and the one on MLK (between Grand and 25th St) has persisted there for more than 2000 days.
