It's very disappointing for the City of Oakland to be so unambitious when determining how to move forward during a climate crisis. Surely, the city can lead in this arena by setting a more aggressive timetable towards achieving carbon neutrality sooner than 2045.
This is in-line with state of California's Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) Program. As stated in CA Public Utilities Commission website: In 2018, SB 100 (de León, 2018) was signed into law, which again increases the RPS to 60% by 2030 and requires all the state's electricity to come from carbon-free resources by 2045.
I am disappointed City of Oakland doesn't lead the way in community sustainability. We should adopt a more aggressive timeline. In the long run, it is better and cheaper to be proactive than reactive to our climate crisis. Please provide adequate/immediate funding and oversight to support the resolution.
