This has nothing to do with your current state of leaf blowers' and their engine types (albeit important) but more so has something to do with your colleagues over at the Housing & Community Development department. For the past 7 months I've been trying to get ahold of someone due to an unlawful eviction and unfortunately due to the climate we're in with Covid-19 along with the civil unrest at times, the lack of communication for those in on going services with the city is proving to be worrisome. Feel free to add these comments to a sticky or your google doc of some sort and please email this to Ed Reiskin. I'll be following up again. Thank you! I am writing as a concerned citizen who lives near Lake Merritt and as part of the group Lakeshore Neighbors that is a diverse group of residents working to promote health and safety for the visitors, residents and the environment at the Lake with a focus on Lakeshore Ave. Each weekend hundreds of vendors are showing up at the Lake which is leading to crowds, increased garbage and sanitation issues. I counted more than 60 vendors between Boden Way and Brooklyn Ave. on Lakeshore on 7/18 and 7/19. My neighbor found human feces with toilet paper and urine in their driveway in the middle of the day. There is an incredible amount of trash and much of it is going into the lake and harming the wildlife. People just discard trash bags on corners overflowing with food and garbage waste. Rat populations increase. It is unsanitary and dangerous what is happening, especially during a pandemic. The vendors need to be moved to an area that is larger if the City feels it is critical to allow vending during a pandemic. Safety measures like the ones put in place for the Farmer's Market need to be observed. Alcohol vending needs to be stopped. And there needs to be more trash cans and porta-potties set up near the vendors. One idea is to have the vendors set up in the field by the library between El Embarcadero and the freeway. We need more trash pick up in general. Please we need your help to keep our community and visitors safe. Thank you.
