Plymouth United Church of Christ supports Oakland City Council funding the MACRO model rather than any non-essential funding to OPD.

The Mobile Assistance Community Responders of Oakland (MACRO) is a pilot, developed with community stakeholders, to replace police with well-trained crisis intervention team to respond to non-violent, non-serious-crime 911 calls with de-escalation, assistance and referrals to community resources as needed.

MACRO is a less expensive way to respond to non-criminal, non-violent emergency calls - in particular those that are related to mental health and unhoused issues.

It is absolutely essential that this response not simply be an alternative number, although that will be part of it, but integrated directly into the 911 system in order to interrupt bad policing and not leave the response to the intent or awareness of the caller.

The SSB Tax revenue has helped Saba’s collective of corner store owners to begin to transform stores into community stores uplifting healthy products and community wellness. Continued funding will help us strengthen and expand our work. Corner store owners have the potential to be healthy community stores, but face many systemic barriers to providing affordable healthy foods under current conditions, continued SSB Tax revenue funding will help alleviate some of these barriers and help to build sustainable models for each store we are working with .
