I support Resolution 2.1 for a Local Health Emergency For Oakland’s African-American (Black) Residents. As a member of Anti Police-Terror Project & a Peace & Freedom Party Central Committee member, Supervisorial District 3, it's imperative that the City respond to the disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Black Oaklanders in support of a Black New Deal. We know that data from the Alameda County Health Departments reveal that the largest numbers of infections and deaths in Oakland are in zip codes where significant portions of Oakland’s Black population live. Fatalities and rates of infection continue to grow, especially in East Oakland zip codes of 94619, 94601, and 94621. CRC & APTP convened a wide range of Oakland Black leaders to develop a set of demands of city officials in response to this alarming trend. While every community is impacted by this pandemic, it is clear that Black people are suffering at higher rates due to the 500 years of discriminatory treatment.
