9.1 18-2550 Subject: Non Binding MOU
From: Office Of The City Administrator
Recommendation: Conduct A Public Hearing And Upon Conclusion Adopt A Resolution Authorizing The City Administrator, Or Designee, To Execute A Non-Binding Memorandum Of Understanding Between The City And The Port Regarding The Process Of Review Of Applications For, And, If Approved, The Anticipated Framework Of Regulation Of The Development Project Proposed By The Oakland Athletics At Howard Terminal
I'm a Bay Area resident, and I'm writing in support of the Oakland A's ballpark development project. The team's current proposal has the potential to do economic and cultural wonders for the city of Oakland, and this proposed MOU will pave the road to such an outcome. Thank you!
Please, Please Please move this project forward! I grew up in the Bay Area, have lived in Oakland for 10 years and would be absolutely crestfallen if this lost momentum, potentially endangering The A's ability to stay in the area. The ballpark at Howard Terminal will no doubt transform Oakland into the crown jewel of the East Bay. A destination, not only for Northern California entertainment seekers, but travelers from around the world. StAy the course Oakland!
I support the Oakland A's plans to build a new ballpark at Howard Terminal. The A's plans would provide a huge boost to Jack London Square by increasing foot traffic and supporting the local businesses in the area, as well as attracting many new ones. The A's plans at both Howard Terminal and the Coliseum site would be great for the Oakland business community and would provide important community benefits for residents such as affordable housing and job growth. I have never seen a team as committed as the A's to giving back to their city and community. A ballpark at Howard Terminal would give the A's a chance to thrive in Oakland and it would be a mistake for the city to miss out on this opportunity.
I am writing in support of the Oakland A's and their Howard Terminal Project. I am a Bay Area Native, current Oakland Resident, having grown up in countless cities throughout the region. The A's and their new executive team have made it a priority of theirs to remain in Oakland, and have also shown commitment to not only the city of Oakland and but to its residents. Jack London Square has the potential to become the premier tourist, shopping, dining, and residential area that we have been envisioning for decades, and this ballpark project would become a major attraction that would help transform Oakland's waterfront into a national destination.
I implore the City Council to adopt the resolution authorizing the City Administrator to executive a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City and the Port regarding the process of review of applications for the anticipated framework of regulation of the development project proposed by the Oakland A's at Howard Terminal. Coming from a 3rd generation family of Oaklanders who have been active in this city for 95 years this is a once in a generation project that will greatly benefit not only our city but also our Oakland citizens. Please stop delaying this process and start supporting the Howard Terminal ball park....our city needs it. George
I am writing in support of the Oakland A’s and their plan to build a new stadium at the Howard Terminal site. Under the current ownership, this organization remains committed to the city of Oakland and continues to work toward a project that will benefit both the team and the existing community. It’s time to show our support and commitment to the team by working together toward a new ballpark in our city.
I oppose the stadium at Howard Terminal as it would be a gentrification bomb from a deeply unethical group of people that would destroy not only West Oakland and Chinatown, but have a ripple effect throughout Oakland. I understand that this item is not voting on Howard Terminal, but I believe that approving this MOU would send a message that the City is open to moving forward with the project. Please don't continue to roll out the red carpet for this stupid project. Please vote no!
