10 18-2424 Subject: Designating Wildfire Prevention A Top Priority For The City Of Oakland
From: Councilmember Thao
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Designating Wildfire Prevention A Top Priority For The City Of Oakland And Requesting The City Administrator To Present A Comprehensive Report To The Public Safety Committee That Addresses Oakland's Wildfire Prevention Strategies And Planning For Oakland's Wildland Urban Interface
Recent tornadic wildfires since 2015 and their economic and loss impact upon California communities such as Redding, Santa Rosa, and Paradise to name a few point out that we in Oakland need to support this resolution to get moving within the City and its departments to foster preparedness and to allow for better response planning and coordination across departments. In the name of my Wildfire Prevention activist deceased wife Dinah Fischbach-Benson pass this resolution. Let's be better prepared!
As a 24 year resident of Oakland, I strongly urge the City of Oakland to make Wildfire Prevention a top priority. With climate change, the risk of a deadly fire in the Oakland Hills has increased dramatically. We must be proactive NOW in addressing the increased danger to our community.
