Recommendation: Adopt The Following Pieces Of Legislation;
1) A Resolution Authorizing The Biennial Budget For Fiscal Years 2019-2021 And Appropriating Certain Funds To Provide For The Expenditures Proposed By Said Budget; And
I write in support of the Oakland Together amendments. Specifically, Fund 1030, Item 3, as pertains to repairing, upgrading and improving the Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC). OACC operations are supported by facility rental revenues. Funds are needed to make OACC a safer and more versatile space for more diverse programming and increased rental revenues. All the finishes, equipment, lighting, etc are the original from 25 years ago. Since then, OACC has had about 500,000 visitors who come for classes, performances, conferences, weddings and other special occasions, festivals, films, exhibitions and more. OACC also provides space for artists to launch their artistic visions. OACC is a community anchor, a home for APIA's to celebrate their art, cultures and heritage and to strengthen their voices. It encourages public discourse and provides opportunities for diverse peoples of all ages from throughout the Greater Bay Area to come together, to find common ground and to connect
