This is the last step in completely eliminating the lower-middle in Oakland. I am the last native Oaklander on my block. I will be replaced by techies. That is just the way it is. More rich people to pay rich taxes. The stooges in the pro-tenant organizations think they are winning a class war fight. However, that is just not how this is going to play out. Many units have gone off the market and they will continue to leave the market. How many? Dan K says none or a negligible amount. More like at least 1/3 already gone and another 1/3 in a few years. This is 600 units. Negligible? Yes, and no. Because these units house the lower-middle and middle class in Oakland only to give way to the upper class and neavou riche it is tantamount to building another luxury building without affordable housing. Creating luxury buildings that are equal to gated communities right in the middle of Oakland. This ordinance will succeed in more in-fill of new wealthy Oakland. Oakland, playground 4 techies!
