3 18-1517 Subject: Resolution Allocating Funding For OUSD Transportation Costs
From: Council President Kaplan, Councilmember Thao And Councilmember Bas
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution To Provide Transportation To Schools By Allocating $500,000 In Unexpended Fiscal Year 2018-2019 City Of Oakland Measure B Actia Funds (2211) To AC Transit To Cover Oakland Unified School District Transportation Costs As Follows: $500,000 For FY 2019- 2020
Getting students to schools is important for their education. I understand the need for transportation assistance, living in an area with minimal transportation options. We knew this was going to be an issue when AC Transit reluctantly agreed to fund school buses for Oakland students last year.
Being part of the Oakland BPAC and a past member of the Alameda CTC BPAC, I fully concur with OakDOTâs position. $500,000 is not huge, but will have significant affects on their projects and delivery. In my annual report as the chair of the BPAC to the Public Works Committee, I stated the frustration we face with project delays. I get frequent questions from residents anxious to see the result of their tax dollars at work. If this measure is approved, the projects will be further delayed.
AC Transit receives a larger share of the Measure B/BB funding than local jurisdictions 6% vs 3%. I believe they can work with other funding sources for OUSD transpiration short fall.
