The city of Oakland is making it ever increasingly more difficult and expensive to be a housing provider. These increases in costs and regulations create time burdens on rental housing providers and increase costs for both renters and owners. As an owner who works full time to provide decent housing at a fair price, it is becoming less attractive to continue on in this business. We. as a city, need to incentive unit creation rather than increase the costs of owning these units if the housing shortage is to be alleviated.

I live in one side of my duplex, rent out the other, and have never raised the rent on a tenant. Two reasons: (1) I used to be a renter. And (2) it is worth a lot to keep the good people living next to me. This is despite increases in property taxes, business taxes, and utilities. You just recently raised RAP. Give us a break, please.
