S7.12 18-1298 Subject: Resolution In Support Of Oakland Public School Teachers
From: Council President Kaplan, Councilmembers Bas, Thao And City Attorney Parker
Recommendation: Adopt A Resolution Expressing Support For Oakland Unified School District ("OUSD") Teachers In Improving Their Working Conditions And Urging The Oakland Unified School Board To Ensure Vital Public Needs Are Met And To Seek To Avoid Closing Public Schools And To Provide All Schools The Resources To Help Students Thrive
If you don’t stand with teachers, and you don’t stop the horrible conditions under which teachers work, and you don’t stop closing down our schools, you ought to be ashamed of yourselves! VOTE TO SUPPORT TEACHERS!!
this isn’t rocket-science. you’re ruining our schools if you oppose this resolution, and you will be handled at the ballot box.
Absolutely support this. It is important that City Council go beyond these words. What actions will you take? The School Board has demonstrated their interest in eliminating Oakland public schools and replacing them with charter schools that use our tax dollars but are not publicly accountable. It's time for conversations at the state level to get at solutions to saving our public schools. Part of the discussions needs to be the racism in standardized tests.
